Hotel Thamel

Unfortunatly, haveign booked online with hotels.com, when we arrived, the hotel didnt have a room for us. They did immediatly arraneg for us to go to another hotel only a few minutes walk away. But this hotel was not to the standard of Hotel Thamel, we had a terrible nights sleep. Sayign this, the staff greeted us in teh morngin and took us back to the origional hotel for breakfast and arranged a free transfer to the airport. They have also promised a complimentary night on my return in a few weeks. My advise is check with hotel if you book last minute as I did.

Even after paying all the money through Hotels.com, i was not given room on the first day. I was kept in a dirty place in some other hotel and only on day2, i was brought to Thamel hotel!! What more can I say? Thamell hotel is OK but!!

When the power was cut (all the time in Kathmandu) they picked and chhsed when they ran the generater-while the hotel next always had their generator running when power was cut.

My expectations are tempered by the realisation that this is a budget hotel and I should not expect five or four star facilites or service. They gave us a clean room, clean sheets, clean towels, clean bathroom and air conditioning that worked. We had a pleasant stay despite a few glitches which were readily sorted out. The location is great -- right in the middle of Thamel, yet in a small side lane. The food in the restaurant was good. The staff were very friendly and courteous and often went the extra mile.

Nice hotel near main tourist market area. Rooms are good. hotel ambience is good. staff is also attentive. Provided free airport pick up. Ample breakfast varieties available. food is ok but very much costly. staff is helping to arrange local sight seeing tours. If needs vehicle for local tours or further travelling it is better to contanct any travel agent office situated nearby. you will get the reasonable rate. If booked vehicle with hotel they added their commission in normal rates. bargaining and vehicle choice is available with travel agent.

I would highly recommend this hotel in the center of everything in Kathmandu.. The inner courtyard was pleasant to sit in away from the noise of the city. If you are elderly or have health problems choose a lower floor. no elevator. Quality food. Breakfast was various and changed daily. reasonable day trips can be arranged at the hotel. Highly recommend and a bargain

Was very happy to stay at the Hotel Thamel. Staff is very friendly (although pretty much everyone you meet on the street in Kathmandu is so). Rooms are spacious and equipped with A/C. However you have to make a choice when it comes to the rooms--either you can get a tub or you can get a balcony. I went for the tub, as I wanted to soak in the hot water after a week long trek. Oh yes, they have hot water. But the electricity periodically goes out. Given the price range of other options in the Thamel district, I wouldn't say Hotel Thamel is exactly the winner for quality/price. However it is definitely a decent place to stay (if you care about comfort). And oh, maybe not the best place to make friends with other backpackers--I would say the guests staying here are a little bit older and a little more reserved.

Hotel quality/condition is alright, old, room is ok, not as clean as other. I've seen worst. Great and quiet location, even though just couple door down you will hit the tourist busy street. I wish the hotel is more up to date and more clean, having carpet on the hall way is not a good idea because it does smell like cigarette.

It was great , only steps to shopping and resturants. The management and staff were great [helpful as planning as to where to go.] The rate was great and their resturant was very good.
