The Cadogan Arms

I stayed here for one night with friends due to a nearby wedding at Hengrave Hall. The property itself is lovely from the outside and is welcoming. The bar/pub is lovely and has a spacious and friendly outside seating area. The food was lovely and tasted fresh and presentation was wonderful. The hotel rooms were fairly spacious and modern. The rooms don't have air-conditioning and with the current weather, it was a very hot and stuffy nights sleep. The rooms were fairly clean however I assume the room hasn't been used for a while, as the dusty cobwebs around the ceiling were missed during cleaning, but the room was otherwise comfortable and fairly priced. Comfortable beds, and bedding. Towels and shampoo/shower gel was provided. iron/ ironing board available upon request. The staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. It was an overall pleasant stay and I would stay again.

Mould in shower and no chef for breakfast. £23 for a below average steak that came with the wrong chips described in the menu. Cheap ish and the staff tried to make it chearfull.

Adequate room, clean, but many little things that made it an irritating stay: they couldn’t provide breakfast as they didn’t have the staff (that’s not their fault, but I personally think that should be made clear before booking, not just that breakfast is not included). The room was very stuffy even with windows open, with low entrances. I’m of average height and banged my head twice. The shower didn’t drain properly and the shower door wouldn’t close properly either. Things were basically falling apart. On the plus side it was reasonably quiet, comfortable bed and quite well presented considering.

The hotel was nice , the staff were lovely and helpful and the food was good if expensive. Unfortunately the room was not clean , thick dust and cobwebs in the bedroom and bathroom . The sink was blocked and water sat in it for a long time . The shower tray was in desperate need of a descaler or replacement. Not worth £100 especially as breakfast is not provided . Shame as we wouldn’t return even though in a lovely area .

When charging £100 a night for a room only the basics need to be right. We were happy to pay this price for a room because when there are events on at Thetford Forest, hotel rooms are at a premium. We payed in full at check in and was directed to our room, on entering the room we could see that this was a no thrills room but when looking around there were a number of cob webs and dead spiders on the wall/ceiling, on further inspection the room was dusty and more cob webs under the bed side cabinets etc. this was not a days dust but weeks if not more! We pointed this out to the manager on our way out and showed him some photos I had taken, he agreed to refund £50 and clean the room while we were out. On our return at around midnight the room had been cleaned but was still not perfect, but the cleaner had left a window open and a light on so we now had a number of flying insects in our room. I appreciate that the management tried to resolve the issues but the rooms should be clean on arrival.

Very comfortable and spacious. A bit dated, but very clean and tidy.

Fine if you are walking locally or eating at the restaurant but as we were visiting Bury and without breakfast we would have been better off staying in the town centre as it ended up just being a bed for the night at a similar rate to town centre hotels.

Best room we have stayed in for a long time and lovely and quiet.

Nice light room, convenient restaurant downstairs (as there’s nothing nearby). Bar could stay open a bit later so you can relax with a drink after your dinner. Good for a one night stay.
