Victoria Hotel

First of all, I would encourage you to read the other 1 star reviews. Made me feel a little better that it wasn’t me and this hotel has a pattern of being rude, manipulative and gas lighting their guests. I booked this room through Airbnb, they stated they were pet friendly and I was travelling with a dog. I didn’t see further down on the page in smaller writing that I needed to inform them beforehand that I was bringing a dog. When I arrived at the hotel, similarly to other reviews, the staff immediately started accusing me of not following rules and threatening to cancel my reservation. This seems to be the way they act. I asked them whether he was telling me that I couldn’t check in and he said I should sit down and alter my attitude. He again told me I didn’t follow the rules, that there are certain procedures for people to bring the dog and there is an extra charge. I said all of that was fine, however he kept saying in an accusatory way “because you haven’t followed the rules and I don’t like your attitude” and more than once told me he is just going to cancel my booking. I pleaded with him not to do that as I had driven a long way and it was late on in the evening, he said he appreciated that but doesn’t want my attitude in the hotel. Eventually he asks the manager to come out. She is even worse. Very calm but very manipulative and gaslighting me. States that it doesn’t make sense if I hadn’t done anything wrong why would he threaten to cancel the room? I stated I don’t know, why don’t we ask him what upset him, she refused to do so. I said I don’t feel safe staying in the hotel, the manager immediately jumped on this and stated that she wouldn’t want me to stay but against my will and that I had blown it. She couldn’t see how I could stay if I didn’t feel safe. She then started to peddle that because I didn’t feel safe that I had agreed to the cancelation and wasn’t entitled to a refund as it’s Airbnb and their rules. Look at the other reviews. They have played this game with other people. Absolutely shocking. I don’t know how Airbnb allow this on their platform.

Clean and comfortable if a bit dated. Central location. Various bars and take aways close by.

Bar only opens weekends. Car parking, very poor.
