The hotel looked quite inviting from the outside, but the room we had was very basic, to say the least, and our bed was extremely uncomfortable - there being a hard lump sticking out of the one side and the thin mattress resting on a flimsy metal frame. Consequently, I didn't sleep well at all during my stay. The shower wasn't bad, but leaked all over the floor, so we spent 10 minutes each morning trying to mop up the water with the one tiny bath mat provided. The hotel didn't provide towels and nor did they provide a service by which you could wash your own. However, the room was cleaned every day, unless you requested for it not to be.
The food was absolutely awful and there wasn't enough to go round every guest. The produce/ingredients was so obviously very cheap and basic and the chef didn't have the first idea of how to cook. We ate the same thing every night - pasta in some indefinable sauce or just basic tomato, a selection of vegetables and salad, which we had to help ourselves to from a buffet table - this ended up being a 'first come, first served', if you didn't dash for it and elbow the other guests out of the way, well, you simply missed out. The slices of meat they served up every night were so thin and always covered in some disgusting white, slimy sauce with absolutely no flavour. It was also difficult to decide what kind of meat we were eating as it all looked and tasted the same. The portions were tiny (which is probably just as well) and if you asked for a little more, the waiting staff treated you just as Mr Bumble did Oliver Twist when he asked for more. The breakfast was no better with nothing on offer but stale and over baked white rolls and croissants (well they looked liked croissants, but it was doubtful that this is what they were) again, with no taste and which stuck to the roof of your mouth, so you spent the rest of the day trying to peel them off. The coffee was out of a push button machine and the orange juice was more like orange squash. If you didn't stay in for lunch (which given dinner, we decided not to) they gave you a packed lunch, which was indescribably bad and consisted of 3 dry rolls with a few slices of either cheese or salami and some grotesque looking fried meat which you could have easily used to re-sole your shoes! There wasn't a scrap of butter or salad in the rolls, just this dry meat and/or tasteless cheese. Every piece of fruit we were given was on the turn - the peaches (if you could get one) were rotting and the apples all crinkled and soft. When one of the waiters brought me a peach, it was so rotten the inside was black, but when I showed it to him and asked for another, you'd think I'd ask him to strip off and do a little dance - he was horrified! We did mention the awful food to the staff, but no one cared, in fact, they were in denial and insisted that everything was OK, and gave you a look to suggest you were an ungrateful wretch and should be shot for even suggesting the food was mediocre (at best). In the end, the food made me feel so unwell (I felt like I'd been eating fast food for every meal for 6 days solid) that I went to the nearest supermarket and bought some breakfast food that I could eat, which I happily ate at their tables - just to make a point
The waiting staff were pleasant enough, but the reception staff were awful - the girl who checked us in never smiled once the whole time we were there and swung between monosyllabic or mute. The manageress glared at you as if you were some kind of inconvenience and not a guest paying for what was supposed to be 3 star service. However, the waitress working behind the bar (her name was Sara) was very pleasant and amicable and went out of her way to make sure the customer was satisfied, though when we mentioned the food to her she was like the rest and denied the unsatisfactory quality of it.
They advertised that there was a gym, sauna and whirlpool (jacuzzi?) but we were told this was not in use, as was the case with their ice machine behind the bar, so if you wanted ice with your drink, they simply didn't have any and neither did they bother to make other arrangements, which, given the hot weather and the amount of guests asking for ice in their drinks, was just plain stupid and ignorant.
Wifi wasn't available in the rooms - only in the lobby and then, it wouldn't connect and you had to wait hours just to download an email.
Don't be swayed by the pictures of this hotel on their official site - the hotel doesn't look like this and the atmosphere is one of dark and dingy, not light, clean and airy as the pictures would suggest - these photos have been taken in a better light. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and am simply appalled by the quality. This is a clear cut case of a company charging people large amounts to stay in a hotel and wanting to make huge profits by cutting back on good service - shameful. Take my advice, find yourself another hotel if you wish to stay in this beautiful part of the world - there are plenty to choose from!
