Van der Valk Hotel ARA

Fairly priced room, but no a/c! The hotel is nice ... just wasn't to our liking as the area was so boringly quiet. Still, if quiet is what you want, then it's very good. I wouldn't stay there again though as I've seen more action in a morgue! The no smoking policy is rather draconian and I'm not even sure it's facilitated on the room balconies as there aren't the usual 'wall-mounted' ash-trays ... despite there bring a cigarette vending machine in the foyer! ... unless you want to risk the €200 fine ^^!

All the staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble .Very easy going and relaxing atmosphere. Would really like to keep it a secret!!

well maintained, large rooms.Only negative is the loud noise of slamming (auto closing) doors of guest rooms.

Although off the beaten path, this hotel is a gem! Wonderfully located adjacent to the river "Oude Maas", but yet very close to the city of Rotterdam.Fantastic room and bed (very comfortable) and wonderful service from the Front Desk to the restaurant, bar and room service staff.

Had a riverview room which was very nice watching all the river navigational traffic go by your window. A bit out of town, so restaurant had a captive audience. Lovely property.

Hotel is great but location a bit out of the way. The surroundings are flat and featureless but its next to the main river and if you like barges then your in your element

We arrived late and the hotel was a bit tricky to find in the dark but the hotel receptionist provided helpful navigation hints over the phone. The kitchen was due to close at 10pm but the staff stayed on another half an hour to make sure we were fed and cooked us a terrific mixed grill with all the accoutrements. The waiting /bar staff were also wonderfully welcoming and happy despite us being the last in the bar. The en-suite room was well equipped, clean and extremely spacious. Really the only criticism I can make is the pillow being too fat and springy. Extremely good value for money all round.

Great location for biking, hiking etc, very welcoming, pool - gym bar all good. overall really top class hotel. Close to where i was working. I would recomend this hotel to anyone, rooms are palatial.
