City Gate

I recently stayed at the City Gate Hotel for one night while travelling for work, and I was really impressed with the whole experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which immediately made me feel comfortable and relaxed after a long day. The hotel itself is lovely, with a warm and cosy atmosphere throughout. My room was very clean, well presented, and comfortable, with everything I needed for my stay. The bed was especially comfortable, and it was nice to have such a peaceful and relaxing place to unwind in the evening. I also had food during my stay and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Everything was fresh, tasty, and well prepared, and the service in the restaurant/bar area was excellent. It’s clear the hotel takes pride in both its food and customer service. One thing I particularly liked was the outdoor area. It’s large, open, and really nicely set out — perfect for sitting outside with a drink or enjoying the atmosphere when the weather is nice. It gave the hotel an even more relaxed and welcoming feel. Overall, I had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Exeter, whether for work or a short break. I would happily stay here again in the future.

Nice room, good location, great value

The location was good - close to the train station - and very convenient for all the sights.

Location and standard of property

Staff were helpful arranging late check-in. Bed was large and comfortable. Bathroom and shower were nice.

Noisy kitchen fan (I presume) outside started early. Breakfast buffet wasn't replenished and was removed early while we were still having breakfast.
