"Great Breakfast in the room"

8.0

This was our first time to visit Kyoto - Arashiyama. After arrived in Kyoto Station, we took taxi to go over to the hotel, approx. US $40. The hotel is nice and clean. We really enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. We also enjoyed walking around the area. Nice restaurants around. After we checked out the hotel, we took 15-20 minutes to walk over to the JR Station and took the train back to Kyoto Station.

"Serene and tranquil perfection."

10.0

Hands down the best travel experience we've ever had. We were thoroughly pampered and taken care of from check in through to checkout. The staff provided us with umbrellas upon checkout as it was a rainy day, and sent us off right to the entrance gates. Service was perfect and unobtrusive. We made use of the onsen which was very clean. The room itself was also spotless and beautiful. Would love to stay again.

"Unforgettable experience"

10.0

Beautiful location and grounds, comfortable room, tranquil onsen, delightful meals, and wonderful service throughout our stay. This was our first ryokan experience and it really exceeded our expectations. The surrounding area is also incredibly picturesque, and there are many great shops selling souvenirs and sweets. From the moment we walked up the driveway, we were met with friendly service (in excellent English). The kaiseki dinner was fascinating, delicious, and beautifully presented -- and Satomi, our attendant, was great about explaining each dish. Bathing in the onsen and in-room cedar tub, sleeping on futons on the floor, and being served meals in our room all made for an unforgettable travel experience. A stay in a ryokan is a wonderful counterpoint to the bustle of Japanese big-city life.

"An unmissable Ryokan experience!"

10.0

Located in beautiful Arashiyama and looking on to the river, our stay at Ryotei Rangetsu was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Having arrived in the pouring rain we were welcomed with big smiles and ushered into the warm and welcoming ryokan. Our traditional room was ready and waiting along with fresh green tea and yukatas for us to change into. While breakfast was included as part of our stay, we decided to go all the way and enjoy dinner at the ryokan as well. I highly recommend dinner at the ryokan - it was an exquisite 6 course meal in the traditional Kaiseki style that Kyoto is famous for. And the setting just made it better. We were very sad to leave the next day after another beautiful breakfast served in impeccable Japanese style. Would LOVE to go back and stay for more than a night next time.

"Unbelievable Experience"

10.0

My husband and I went to Kyoto and stayed at our first ryokan. It was the best experience I've ever had in a hotel. It's a little far from central Kyoto, but it's in a very beautiful neighborhood next to the river. It had gorgeous views from the street, of the mountains. It's very close to the Monkey park (worth a visit), and to a shrine. Only 10 minute walk from the subway/train. And it's about 20 minutes to get to central Kyoto on the train. Service was outstanding. If you are interested in trying a new culinary experience then have breakfast and dinner at the ryokan. But let them know ahead of time; or else they will scramble and stress out, which is what happened to us. We felt bad. Restaurants in the neighborhood close early, so the hotel is the best place to have it. You can have it in your room or in the dining room. You have to be adventurous though! The room was very comfortable, except the traditional futon which is a bed on the floor with no cushion. There is a private bath, but because it was winter, we used the "onsen", the inn's public bath. As an American, I was not used to this, but it's like a locker room, so I got over it. I would go back in a heartbeat and next time bring a thick yoga mat for under the futon. Best meal in Japan!
