RARO Ipanema Boutique Hotel

We loved our stay in Rio. This hotel is a hidden gem with an exceptional friendly family feel. We can’t thank you enough for warmly welcoming us and helping us throughout our visit. From Robert the owner, Bruno, Ana, Lana, and Washington and all behind the scenes! On arrival it felt like entering the hidden garden and the stairs take you up to a very tasteful and quirky lobby. There is also a lovely shaded patio area to have a nice breakfast. Continuing up the stairs you reach the most amazing rooftop terrace with spectacular views over the sea and city…jewel of the crown! Up here you can enjoy the relaxing pool area and bar. Big thanks to you Diego we had the best caipirinhas in Rio! The hotel is within walking distance of Ipanema beach, Copacabana beach and there are many shops, restaurants and bars within walking distance too. Will definitely return here if we are fortunate enough to be back. Would highly recommend.

The best part of the hotel is the staff. Everyone is very kind, thoughtful and helpful. If you stay for more than a couple days they will be your friends. The pool bar with Diego was great. It’s nice having a bartender at the pool.

The steps were more than I expected. The stairs into the hotel, then stairs to your room, then stairs to the pool. If you are 40 plus you must be fit and inshape to stay here. The hotel is on a hill so it’s an exercise to walk to and from the hotel. Be prepared for lots of walking and stairs.

The accommodation exceeded expectations. It’s located close to Ipanema Beach on a hillside—walking up can be a bit of a challenge, but it’s absolutely worth it for the views. You get far more in return: a unique perspective over the city that you wouldn’t have from a typical beachfront stay. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and the panorama is impressive. From the terrace you can see Copacabana and Sugarloaf Mountain, while the rooftop pool and bar offer a wide view over both Ipanema and Copacabana. The staff and the owner are friendly and helpful throughout the stay. Overall, this is a distinctive hotel in Rio where you can experience a more authentic, local atmosphere. I would recommend it.

Esperava mais do café da manhã, faltou um cardápio ou alguém pra explicar melhor as coisas que podem ser preparadas na hora, todo dia tinha que perguntar. E mesmo com poucos hóspedes demorava um pouco pra ficar pronto. Apesar de ser perto da praia a localização se torna um pouco complicada porque é subindo o morro, alguns Uber achavam ruim.

The hotel is wonderful. It is decorated with great taste. It has a small inner courtyard full of exotic plants where breakfast is served, as well as a rooftop pool, which we didn’t use because the weather was not very good during our stay in Rio. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable, and the linens and towels were clean. The room also had a balcony offering a wonderful view of the city and the ocean. The breakfast was good. We appreciated the fact that we arrived very early in Rio, around 6 a.m., and we were served breakfast free of charge, even though our check-in was much later, around 2 p.m. The staff was very kind and helpful. We checked out very early, at 3 a.m., and a hotel employee on duty helped us carry our luggage to the car, offered us coffee and a small takeaway package for the road, and even offered to help us with a taxi, as we had some issues with Uber drivers picking us up from that area at that hour.

I didn’t like the area. The hotel feels like an oasis of calm in a very chaotic neighborhood. It is located near a favela, on the street that leads up to it, which makes the area unsafe for walking at night. During the day, I had no issues and didn’t feel in danger, but in the evening it was more challenging. We had a situation where we ended up walking through the area at dusk, and it was not very pleasant. We had booked a day trip to an island, with a return time of 9 p.m. Although we had arranged for hotel pick-up and drop-off to avoid walking at night, the tour company changed the pick-up/drop-off point overnight, and we ended up having to walk through that area in the evening. We tried to take an Uber, but the driver only took us to the street leading up to our hotel and dropped us off there, saying he wouldn’t go further into that area. We got out and walked to the hotel (about 10 minutes). At night, the street leading up to the favela is poorly lit, with many parked cars—some seemingly abandoned—and various people who looked suspicious. I did not feel safe walking there at that hour. Another stressful situation during our stay was related to our departure. We had a very early flight and had to leave the hotel at 3 a.m. We booked a taxi through Booking to avoid any unpleasant surprises. However, at 3 a.m., the driver did not answer the phone and abandoned the ride. It turned out to be a great decision to book through Booking rather than Uber, because someone from Booking quickly arranged another car for us, and we were able to get to the airport on time.

The hotel is in need of some updating; however, the new owner advised us that renovations are currently in progress. It is also worth noting that access to the pool requires climbing 110 steps, which was not disclosed beforehand.

Fantastic property, amazing views, stylish interior. The staff were super friendly and remembered your name. The owner’s dog is pretty awesome too. I liked it so much I will most likely stay here again on my return. Note on location: I was initially apprehensive about walking into town as it’s a bit tucked away up a quiet street - however it was actually fine for walking to the beach / bars. No problems

I was a little disappointed the pool bar wasn’t open at any point during my stay - I imagine because of the wet weather. I was hoping to enjoy a caipirinha with the most amazing views the property has to offer. Other improvements I could suggest are to ensure bottled water is replenished every day, as well as the nespresso capsules
