"Stunning building, huge potential to be something really special but lacking a bit of finesse"

7.0

The building, decor and outdoor spaces/plants are so beautiful The staff in the restaurant were INCREDIBLE and gave such fantastic service. They made us feel like honoured guests.

Could be a bit cleaner. No drink or food service around the pool areas. The porters who brought our bags to the room were quite unfriendly when we didn’t give them a tip straight away (someone in our group has a phobia of geckos and found on in their room so was in distress and we got distracted) We hoped to find them and tip them later but when we next saw them they were quite rude to us. They also were the staff who seemed to be doing the housekeeping, and we did not get housekeeping during our stay. Not sure if that is standard or is related to the lack of tip on the first night.

A really wonderful place to stay - colonial in feel set in beautiful extensive grounds, a lovely courtyard to sit out in, an incredible pool, a fabulous room, amazing bar and staff and good food. They also organised 2 great safaris for us.

Perfect.

Such a beautiful hotel, literally a palace. Spacious, well air conditioned room. Amazing swimming pools. Good food choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lovely spa, which I enjoyed a very reasonable massage at.

"The best place to stay if you’re doing the whole Safari thing and would like to take a rest from the poverty and chaos t"

Visually stunning. It gives the impression of a maharajah’s palace and Is described as a “village“ rather than a hotel and indeed, as you walk around this extensive area, it is easy to get lost in the fountains and plants and balconies that form this place. It has multiple terraces and many places in which you can sit and contemplate. It is unusual in that it is set in what is effectively wild brush. To get there, there is a bumpy ride down an unmade track before you arrive at the beautiful front gates - not an unpleasant experience. For me, it was another five minute walk to my room.I stayed there to be on the outskirts of the national park and to engage in a Safari. An important aspect for me is that I could psychologically retreat from the commercialism, poverty and chaos behind the massive closed gates.

A limited food experience. Having just visited other luxury hotels in India, I did expect a more traditional delivery of dining. That is not to say I was expecting European food, quite the contrary - Indian dishes make a very nice change but I did expect my evening meal to offer à la carte as a choice . Instead, it was an outdoor buffet which on the plus side was dining under the stars, but gastronomically only comprised relatively few items such as chicken kebab, salad and few dessert options. Alongside the kebab, I was offered breaded fish nuggets which were very tasty but I took be almost an apology for the lack of other items. Breakfast was more traditional served in a dining room but again, there are not many cooked choices other than omelette or Dahl. .
