Art Deco Masonic Hotel

I loved this hotel. It felt so comfortable to be in, like home, but fancier. Staff were welcoming and helpful. The decor attention to detail is delightful. Real plants, library nook, art deco lamps and the beautiful verandah looking out to the bay made this hotel a memorable place to stay. I'd stay here again.

Gorgeous art deco hotel, lots of character. Loved the upstairs terrace.

The whole hotel has remained authentic, from the front door to the room, to the decor throughout. There is even a wireless, playing vintage music in the reception. Our room had opening windows that allowed fresh air in and in warmer weather it would be nice to sit on the upper floor’s outdoor patio. The room, bedding and facilities were great and we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to experience Art Deco up close. The location is excellent also for accessing Marine Parade walks, the museum, information centre, as well as the main downtown area. Highly recommend the guided walking tour also.

The only thing that let the whole experience down, was the service at the hotel’s restaurant. It was slow and the food options, although seemed to be good, could go up a notch … we also ate at The Central Fire Station, down the road and couldn’t fault that as an alternative.

In 2025, I visited New Zealand for the first time during a personal tour. The entire country is incredibly beautiful, but I truly fell in love with Napier—its charm is unforgettable: black volcanic beaches, the ocean, beautiful parks, and the renowned Hawke's Bay wine region with stunning vineyards. The town is full of character, and its Art Deco architecture brings you back in time. In 2026, I returned with two groups of my clients as part of WineNot Experiences’ cultural wine and gastronomy tours, and during both visits we stayed at the Art Deco Masonic Hotel. My clients truly enjoyed their stay and had a great experience. They especially appreciated the beautiful historic atmosphere of the hotel, the clean and comfortable rooms, the perfect central location, and, most importantly, the warm and welcoming team. The easy access to the waterfront, nearby restaurants, and the vibrant local scene made it an ideal base for our groups. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning to New Zealand again to enjoy its natural beauty, outstanding wine regions, and genuine hospitality.
