We chose this hotel based on its high ratings and five star pricing, but unfortunately our experience did not match the expectations. First, I want to give credit where it is due. The staff were outstanding. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, professional, attentive, and genuinely eager to help. The service was easily the strongest aspect of our stay and was truly five star. Unfortunately, almost everything else fell short. The biggest issue was the gnats. They were everywhere. At breakfast and other dining areas, it was nearly impossible to sit down and enjoy a meal without gnats constantly flying around your face and landing on your food. This was not an occasional inconvenience. It happened every single time we ate and became extremely frustrating. We also paid extra for a room with a balcony overlooking the beach. What was not disclosed is that this room is located next to a wastewater pond and a stream of wastewater flowing toward the ocean. The odor was extremely unpleasant. We could rarely spend more than a few minutes on our balcony before going back inside because the smell was so strong. In some areas of the resort, including the walkway between the spa and our room, the odor was noticeable as well. It was disappointing to pay a premium for a balcony end room and then be unable to enjoy the balcony. Another issue that should be mentioned is the stream flowing from this area into the ocean. To reach the beach and swimming area, guests often have to walk through ankle to knee deep water from the stream before getting to the ocean. We found this unpleasant and off-putting, especially given the premium rates charged by the resort. It significantly detracted from what should have been one of the property’s main attractions: direct beach access and ocean swimming. The facilities themselves felt dated and in need of renovation. While everything was clean, including the room, restaurant, and grounds, the accommodations did not feel remotely consistent with the price being charged. Compared to hotels we have stayed at throughout Thailand and elsewhere in Asia, the room felt very average and offered little that stood out. The breakfast buffet was also underwhelming. It was acceptable, but nowhere near what we would expect from a property charging five star rates. Aside from the issue with the gnats, the selection and quality simply did not meet five star standards. Adding to the disappointment is the hotel’s remote location, which requires a long, winding drive from the pier. Given the premium pricing, we expected a much higher quality overall experience. To be fair, the staff did everything they could to help and deserve recognition for their efforts. However, exceptional service alone cannot overcome the issues with the facilities, the persistent gnats, the odor from the nearby wastewater area, and the overall mismatch between price and value. We have stayed at hotels throughout Thailand, Asia, and many other parts of the world. This was one of the clearest examples we have experienced of a property charging five star prices without delivering a five star experience. While the staff were among the friendliest and most professional we have encountered, that alone was not enough to justify the cost. We would not return and would not recommend this property to travelers looking for a true five star experience. There are simply far better values available elsewhere in Thailand and throughout Asia.

Wir hatten insgesamt einen sehr schönen Aufenthalt im Buri Rasa Koh Phangan und würden das Resort grundsätzlich weiterempfehlen. Besonders hervorheben möchten wir das freundliche und aufmerksame Personal. Die Mitarbeiter am Strand waren stets herzlich, hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend. Als es mir während unseres Aufenthalts einmal nicht gut ging, hat das Personal sogar mehrfach nachgefragt, wie es mir geht. Diese Aufmerksamkeit haben wir sehr geschätzt. Unser Zimmer im 3. Stock war wunderschön. Durch die hohe Decke wirkte es sehr geräumig und hell. Der große Balkon war ebenfalls ein Pluspunkt. Das Badezimmer war etwas klein, aber funktional. Allerdings gab es nur eine Regendusche ohne separate Handbrause, und der Wasserdruck war teilweise eher schwach. Sehr gefallen haben uns auch die vielen kleinen Details. Die hausgemachten Cookies am Abend waren eine nette Aufmerksamkeit, ebenso die angenehm duftenden Thai-Duftlampen im Zimmer. Der tägliche Turndown-Service sorgte dafür, dass das Zimmer jeden Abend für die Nacht vorbereitet wurde. Die Lage direkt am wunderschönen Strand von Thong Nai Pan Noi ist hervorragend. Die Anlage ist gepflegt, die Atmosphäre entspannt und der Strand zählt für uns zu den schönsten auf Koh Phangan. Positiv erwähnen möchten wir außerdem die kostenlosen Kajaks und Stand-up-Paddle-Boards, die den Aufenthalt zusätzlich bereichert haben. Ebenfalls sehr geschätzt haben wir, dass täglich großzügig kostenloses Trinkwasser bereitgestellt und zuverlässig nachgefüllt wurde. Die Preise der Minibar empfanden wir als fair. Das WLAN funktionierte während unseres gesamten Aufenthalts ausgezeichnet – nicht nur im Zimmer, sondern auch am Strand und in den öffentlichen Bereichen der Anlage.

Leider gab es auch einige Punkte, die uns weniger gefallen haben. Obwohl Adults-Only-Zimmer angeboten werden, gibt es keinen separaten Adults-Only-Bereich. Während unseres Aufenthalts waren relativ viele Familien mit Kindern im Resort. Gäste, die gezielt Ruhe suchen, sollten dies vor der Buchung wissen. Etwas störend fanden wir zudem die häufigen Anrufe auf dem Zimmer. Wir schätzen den guten Servicegedanken dahinter, würden es jedoch bevorzugen, wenn Gäste etwas mehr Privatsphäre hätten. Wenn das „Do Not Disturb“-Schild an der Tür hängt, erwarten wir, dass dies auch für telefonische Kontaktaufnahmen gilt, sofern es sich nicht um etwas Dringendes handelt. Mehrere Anrufe wegen kleinerer Anliegen empfanden wir während unseres Aufenthalts als unnötig störend. Enttäuscht waren wir zudem von einem Cocktail-Event, das mit Flyern im Hotel groß beworben wurde. Als wir die Bar besuchen wollten, wurde uns mitgeteilt, dass die Veranstaltung ausschließlich für das Hotelmanagement bestimmt sei und wir stattdessen im Restaurant sitzen und dort etwas bestellen könnten. Das empfanden wir als wenig gastfreundlich. Wenn eine Veranstaltung nur für eine geschlossene Gesellschaft gedacht ist, sollte dies klar kommuniziert werden und nicht gegenüber allen Hotelgästen beworben werden. Als zahlende Gäste fühlten wir uns dadurch unnötig ausgeschlossen. In anderen Resorts haben wir erlebt, dass besondere Anlässe genutzt werden, um Gäste einzubeziehen und willkommen zu heißen. Das hinterließ für uns einen deutlich wertschätzenderen Eindruck. Ein weiterer Kritikpunkt betrifft den Wäscheservice. Während unseres Aufenthalts wurde dieser massiv verteuert. Zunächst wurde ein Preis von 120 Baht pro Kilogramm kommuniziert. Später wurde eine „Promotion“ für einen Wäschesack zu 1.200 Baht angeboten. Dies erschien uns im Vergleich zu den üblichen Preisen auf der Insel extrem teuer. Schade fanden wir dabei insbesondere, dass andere Preise im Resort durchaus fair gestaltet waren.

Wonderful beach, well maintained hotel, lots of restaurants within 2 min walk. Great service. Perfect spot for relaxing and quiet holiday. Great towel policy at the beach: no towel seat reservations are allowed that block empty seats.

Comparatively, the beach bar is a bit pricy, if prices were adjusted more people would go, because ambience is great.
