Long review, but detailed...
When we arrived, we were very well received by the receptionist. Unfortunately, we do not remember his name and that was the only positive part of our short but stressful stay.
When we got to the room the incidents began, the first thing we noticed was a strong smell and sensation of humidity, which we let pass, since they had placed an air freshener right at the A/C outlet, something strange, but as mentioned we let it pass. When using the shelves for our clothes, we realized that the cleaning was not up to what we expect for the price paid, since we found a used vaper from the previous guest, shelves were dirty and also the floor, something you don’t expect but still we didn’t say anything.
When we wanted to use our private pool we noticed that water was very dirty, so we went to the reception to inform it (on the way we saw that other pools in other rooms were clean and others dirty). Unfortunately, when we spoke with reception, the Manager (Not Spanish) approached and told us that it was because of the dirt in the environment and that it had surely been cleaned days ago and that was why; he said they were going to empty the pool and fill it up again (in an effort to make us feel guilty about wasting water). Again we let it go and we couldn't use the pool until almost night, which is not fair, but again we did not say anything and tried to understand that some things can happen. At this point I did not understand how they couldn't guarantee quality to a guest arriving at the hotel paying more than 500€ per night for 2 people and also not paying attention to these details, but as we do not usually complaint, we still thought that we could manage this and try to enjoy.
When we got into bed, I noticed that the pillow was wet and I thought it was because of the humidity, but it was really wet and I don't know if water entered the room because of the rain the day before or the same morning, again we said nothing, because we understand that there are details that can happen; However, for a hotel with this price, it shouldn't. I just put the pillow aside on the floor and took a nap.
When we arrived for dinner, we wanted to have dinner in the area where the trees were, but unfortunately there was a family with children running and screaming everywhere and occupying that area (no other hotel guest dined in that area that night), several guests (including us) commented on it, but nothing was done. In an exchange with emails later, after we had left the hotel, they confirmed that it is a common practice to accept children for restaurant meals, which is false advertising, as this hotel sell themselves as an ADULTS ONLY hotel.
The next day we woke up around 9am to take a shower, because we wanted to have breakfast and go out to see Menorca. In the middle of the shower, the water stopped coming out of the shower, we contacted reception and they told us that there was no water in the entire hotel, so that was when we decided to leave the hotel. The excuse that the manager gave us in one of the many calls we had, was that, due to the rain and dirty environment, they had used all the water to clean the common areas. I find the lack of foresight and such a childish excuse completely ridiculous, this is a hotel and not a camping zone. I had to finish showering with a bottle of water and not even being able to use the toilet (the lack of water lasted about 3 hours).
When we arrived at reception at around 10:30 a.m., we told the receptionist that we wanted to leave because the hotel did not meet our expectations and we wanted a refund of the nights that we were not going to enjoy (Around 1000€).
We have never asked for a refundefore and never complaint or ask for compensation, if a hotel does not like us, we wait until the day of check out and never come back, but this time we felt that we could not pay more than 500€ per night and receive this kind of service. The only thing we wanted was to leave and be allowed to at least enjoy our last two nights in Menorca (we didn't even ask for a discount on the first night or dinner).
The receptionist told us that he couldn't refund our money and that he had to talk to the manager.
After 3 hours waiting and several conversations by telephone, the manager finally said that he would only refund us for one night, since according to his point of view we had received the service we had paid for (COMPLETELY FALSE), we decided to leave the hotel facilities and stop wasting our time in this so called hotel, so we went to another hotel to finish enjoying our vacation.
Some weeks passed by and we had to call again because refund was not made, and they told us the refund of the night they promised, was not performed because they did not have the right information. So they waited until we called again, RIDICULOUS!.
They have only refunded us for one night, subtracting what we consumed in the dinner, so they have not even had the decency to give us a discount at the restaurant or at least drinks for the bad experience.
As a final note, I would like point out that the manager is not a really nice person who leaves much to be desired regarding customer service and twice we witnessed the poor treatment of the staff, addressing them with arrogance and shouting about his 20 long years of experience.
As said, this hotel needs a lot of improvement! We love supporting local business, but this kind of small business gives bad reputation to other small business that strive to offer a great or at least a fair service.
Take the risk if you wish to spend money and not receiving the service you expect!
