We enjoyed our stay at the Clarion. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and updated. The restaurant on site was also very good

Very enjoyable stay

We stayed for 3 nights as part of a fly drive across Southern France and chose it because of having parking and close to a town so we'd have somewhere to walk around in the evening. We struck lucky as the setting was tranquil and the room was beautiful, clean and well insulated. On top of that we had a balcony overlooking the garden, so were able to see the river and had a whirlpool bath, which was a welcome relief after a long day travelling. Katy the receptionist was so polite and helpful and one of the nicest people we have ever met after years of travelling. The hotel was only 10-15 mins flat walk along the river bank from the centre of Narbonne, which was ideal. Narbonne is a lovely town with several restaurants (we found a great one called Ave Domitius right in the centre by de l'Hotel de Ville). We would happily go back to this hotel and Narbonne again.

Our two-night stay made an delightful end to our holiday. The hotel is approached through a housing estate, but turns out to be in almost rural surroundings,attractively situated beside a physic garden and a canal and forming part of a former water mill. Our room overlooked this, and was spacious and comfortable, with effective air-conditioning. There was a small kitchen and, for those who wanted it, a jacuzzi (a bit out of keeping with the hotel's environmental policy, but still...). The breakfast was very good, but we didn't use the restaurant. The hotel is a half-hour walk from the city centre, 25 minutes from the rail station and only 10 minutes from the autorail terminal. Staff were very helpful and dealt promptly and effectively with a couple of small problems.

There was a water problem. In the shower all water was boiling hot until a staff member came up and explained a complicated button procedure to get cold! In all my years of international travel I have never encountered this! The same staff member cleared our breakfast table as we attempted to make a cup of tea. This shows poor awareness of guests. Other tan that, a good quality hotel.

The bed was particularly comfortable and the hotel was quiet and relaxing which ensured a good night's sleep. Hot water was plentiful and the kitchen enabled us to have a quick cereal breakfast. A Spar store is nearby for essential purchases. We were there out of season but we could see how good the outside facilities were and would be great in the summer. We used the hotel restaurant on the first evening and it was so good we returned on our second night. We had the Plat du Jour on both occasions and both were excellent. It was outstanding for hotel food and not much more expensive than the normal chain hotel fare. The staff were lovely in the restaurant. It was interesting to note that local residents used the restaurant. Narbonne is about a 15 minute walk away along the canal bank and well worth a visit.

I wish had more night stay in this lovley hotel. This city ( Narbonne) and Hotel both offered morethan what I expected. Hotel room was clean and good designed with massive balcony. Hotel surrounding area offers espectacular view. Very friendly staff. Only down side for me was the breakfast… not hot breakfast was served.

Overall stay at hotel was pleasant. Room was large with beautiful view from restful balcony. Disappointed we could not use spa but understand the noise issues. Bathroom facilities excellent. Cleanliness very good. On checking in we were told we could eat at hotel restaurant and book the bill back to our room for business tax purposes. We ate at the restaurant. Two young inexperienced men were waiting tables but were doing their best. The restaurant manager, seemed to be focussing on talking to diners at 2 tables. At end of meal we asked waiter to bill the meal to the room as advised. Waiter went to manager to get advice on how to do this. Manager was still talking to the same table of diners - he then told waiter that this could not be done and we had to pay. I had to return to my room and leave my wife at the table whilst I got my wallet as I had not I would need it. Extremely embarrassing and annoying. Managers rudeness was not acceptable. Spoke to night staff and reception when we checked out and they re-affirmed the procedure for billing back restaurant meals to rooms as happens at all hotels throughout the world. Manager clearly preferred chatting to people rather than breaking off conversation to assist his staff member on how to conduct the transaction. Rudeness is totally unacceptable - on this basis I will not stay at this hotel again. Disappointing as experiences at Clarion Hotels around the world have been generally been very positive.
