The reception staff absolutely wonderful and had 5-star quality. They catered to every request and approached us like humans caring for one another; one lady (Ajla) even lend her own umbrella to us while we met with an unexpected heavy downpour and had a dinner reservation. The reception staff, very nice cleaning ladies and Indian/Filipino staff from the breakfast buffet were the only good thing about this hotel apart from its central location (but there are also other hotels nearby who fulfill that latter need).

Our stay at Hotel Europe was an utter disgrace: 5-star prices for conditions barely scraping 1. The first bathroom was so filthy and moldy we had to be “upgraded,” and the second was still dirty, run-down and neglected. The bathtub leaked constantly. The bidet leaked dirty water. The bedding sagged and was worn out. The “more expensive” room felt tired and poorly maintained throughout. The AC didn’t work because of “winter settings,” leaving zero climate control. And to be clear, this isn’t the fault of housekeeping; the cleaning staff were clearly doing their best with what little they were given. This is top-level mismanagement: charging maximum rates while failing to reinvest in basic maintenance. Breakfast was equally shocking. The only people actually working were the Indian and Filipino buffet staff; the older Bosnian staff stood around chatting, barely acknowledging guests. Poor food quality overall, one cake slice delivered in a transparent attempt to earn a tip by a Bosnian staff member where two ants crawl off it the moment it hit the table. He saw it and just walked away. What was once a highlight of Sarajevo is now a moldy, sagging, leaking, overpriced embarrassment run by people who clearly don’t care.
