The Colonies at Williamsburg

Very nice location. Like the size of the room.

1) The entry to the pool was the most difficult to open & closed from the outside. 2) The water at the pools were too cold for very young children. 3) Had a room on the 2nd floor and it was hard on Seniors to walk up the stairs to check in & out (no elevator).

Everything went well and looking forward to returning . Granddaughter had a great time that was huge for us all .

Everything, great shower, nice kitchen.

Stiff mattresses but not horribly uncomfortable.

Upon arrival Front desk was nice. When we got to our room & entered the master to start unpacking, there was a fish smell. Opened master closet & the odor was horrendous. We realized it was the bag with bedding from sofa bed. Called front desk & the man who arrived came with a spray bottle of air freshener. Oh so NOT effective. Just imagine spraying cologne on a barrel of rotten fish. Worse yet, he was going to leave the bag of fish smell in our unit until we asked him to remove. Sofa & chair had horrible stains & back terrace doors hard to open. Next problem - safe did not work. Called again. Maintenance shows up & says batteries needed. They go get batteries, but Lo-N-Behold the actual battery pack is missing so again have to go & get the pack. After these two issues, we are finally able to shop for groceries. Come back & room is hot even though thermostat is set at 70. Actual temp is 75. We lower to 68 & 30min later, actual temp is 77. Call again & maintenance shows up & says they’ll check the outside AC unit. Hubby goes outside & finds maintenance person playing with wires & once he moves them around a bit & AC starts up so he duct tapes the wires as a quick fix. Doesn’t mean it will last through the night or our stay. Hubby advised front desk we want a new unit. They give us another room, so now we have to repack & move. Saga continues. Safe does not work in 2nd unit. Call front desk & maintenance comes again & they fix, but now when you punch in code the number pad inverts in so a tricky close & open. After we unpacked & ate something, hubby takes a shower. After a bit he yells for me & I find him in a river of water almost coming over shower lip. Drain is not draining. A call to front desk next morning leads to maintenance again coming to yet another room. He tries Draino, but no such luck & says he has to work on it but it will take time. Last straw. Hubby connects with manager & her solution is to let us use unit across from us to shower. It was an awkward solution, but we dealt with it. Not a great day of arrival or next day & having to go across the hallway for showers was very inconvenient. We pay maintenance fees at a sister resort annually & we expect resorts we trade to should also be maintained as well. Not maintaining units is not good. The lobby & pool area great, but should not be only parts of resort to look nice. Actual units are lacking & that is just unacceptable. We also were not given pool wristbands or a parking pass. Had to ask for these when we realized other guests had them. Manager advised us the stay cleaning fee would be removed with all the lousy things we encountered first couple of days, but that did not happen. The sad part was we stayed here 2 years ago & it was nice. Highly disappointed this visit & I think management of this resort needs to be reviewed.

We visited the area with our 3 grandchildren ages 9 & twin 7 year olds. Kids loved the outdoor pool and the magic show. Rooms were a great size. We visited Buschgardens and Water Country while there. Our ice maker did not work and we recommend better nonstick cookware especially for cooking sausage and eggs.
