"If it is indeed a farm, it’s not the kind you’re looking for."

3.0

We thoroughly enjoyed the drive to the property, and enjoyed departing even more.

This is what happens when Jed and Elly May Clampett move to Scotland and buy a B&B. The photographs of this property are very deceptive. They show a lovely old farmhouse that is clean and attractive, and by the name you’d assume would be a working farm, but what you get is clutter everywhere and mediocre at best accommodations. The bed sheets were pilling and uncomfortable, the shower door didn’t close all the way, they charge you for bedroom water from their water cooler in the hall because their tap water isn’t potable, and who on earth thinks it’s a grand ide to put an elderly mum with mobility issues in a completely different wing of the house, and then give her a bathroom separate from her room that looks to have been a converted utility sink location? Oh, and apparently the door to her dining room is the communal smoke break area with a pot of fetid water filled with cigarette butts right outside the door so that’s the only thing you can smell at breakfast time. The host and the older lady were something to be seen, or perhaps something you wish you hadn’t. They couldn’t be bothered to dress properly to bring us our breakfast, coming out in their pajamas sans bra and looking quite disheveled. The breakfast? Not farm food to be sure. Mum reports that the porridge was ok, but the scrambled eggs I had one morning were obviously from a jug and not cracked, and the toast was strait out of a bag, and the cheapest possible to boot. The only thing they appeared to be growing at this farm was a mobile home park. Their “glamping“ area to the back of the property looked as if someone had gone and bought thirdhand used mobile homes that had already been used as meth houses and planted them in the backyard haphazardly. Honestly, after seeing the derelict boat on the drive up and the rundown caravans off to the side, where apparently her daughter and boyfriend are shacked up, I should not have been surprised. Oh, and do ignore the sign that says they have a café.
