Eidfjord Gjestgiveri

Upon arrival the owners were friendly, helpful and provided information about the surrounding areas including tours and services. We stayed in a Comfort Cabin that was fitted with a fridge and hotplates making meals more easily achieved. The main hotel has a small but good menu and the breakfast was excellent. The location, between Eidfjord and the Voringfossen waterfalls, at the end of the Hardanger Fjord was beautifully scenic and the surrounding mountains provided an ever changing picture. This is an incredible beautiful part of the world and the Eidfjord Gjestgiveri is a great place to explore from.

We knew when we booked that the bathrooms were shared, but the layout (two showers/two toilets, one of each for men and women within the same room) was odd. No frills (no TV in our room, no yogurt/variety at breakfast), but good value for a 1-night road trip south.

When we arrived at this hotel, we were informed that we were to stay in small cabins on the property. They were cozy and cute. However, not only is there no bathroom in the room, it is down several concrete steps in a basement. This was not something I wanted to do in the dark at night. We were waste that this was considered a Bed and Breakfast with a shared bathroom. But we had no idea that going outside was part f the deal. Additionally, as we checked in, the proprietor asked if we brought our own linens. Of course we did NOT. We were never told in advance that sheets and pillow cases were not included n the price. That cost us another $10 per person! Towels were not provided either and showers are in that basement too.

In general good experience. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect and I was very pleasantly surprised. We got a corner room with a beautiful view of mountains and a couple of falls, and it was larger than what I expected. Very comfortable. Sharing the bathrooms was not a major problem, though it would be good if there were a little slide selector in the door that could indicate who was using the bathroom (showers, toilets, male/female). The only disappointment was during breakfast that I asked for milk for the cereal and the owner answered, quite matter of fact, that they had run out of milk. The logistic issue was somewhat surprising, but also I sensed some lack of sensitivity towards this issue. Even taking this minor problem into account, our overall experience was very good.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, comfy beds and a decent breakfast. Complimentary wifi with a good connection. Bathrooms are shared but they were very clean and there was never a queue.

Please note that this hotel is in Ovre (Upper) Eidfjord, not Eidfjord. Thus, it is about 10 km from the harbor in Eidfjord - requiring a bus or taxi ride if you arrive by boat. With that in mind, it is a great place. The facility is a classic bed and breakfast with a beautiful porch with tables, chairs, games, and furs for sitting while taking in the nearby mountains and lake. The owners are new (as of 2012), but very kind and helpful.

This was one of the nicest hotels I've ever been. It's basic but very cozy and service minded. They have everything you need and if you need more, the owner takes care of it!! This is a typical hotel where you feel at home, where people listen to you and try to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I needed to some tools because a failure in my car..NO PROBLEM!. Unlike the comments of another guest: there is a freezer, you just have to ask! The price is very reasonable so don't expect a 3 star hotel but at least I got more value for my money than I thought!...in short, I'll be back!
