Hotel Restaurant Maier

After reading reviews, one of the major attractions was the food. As it turned out the breakfast was very good, but we found the evening meal disappointing. The first meal we chose was the "chef's menu of the day" which, except for the delicious dessert, was very ordinary indeed. On the second evening I chose a pork fillet dish and was dismayed to find that while some of the meat was ok some was decidedly tough. For the remainder of our stay we ate out and had very good food at a much better price. There were some failures in communication: there was nothing to explain that the air conditioning only worked when all windows were shut, and nothing to explain that there were outside roller blinds which could be worked by a switch. When we came to check out, my husband asked to pay in euros on his debit card, which would have given a better exchange rate, but he was told he had to pay in pounds. Only on completing the transaction did he receive the following note on the receipt:"I accept that I have been offered a choice of currencies..... I accept that my choice of currency is final" This was patently untrue and left us feeling very ill at ease and a little out of pocket.

My husband and I stopped here for one night while biking around Lake Constance (The Bodensee). The hotel is quaint with a mix of traditional/"old fashion" and more modern decor. The room was not huge, but definitely good enough and very clean. The beds were comfortable and the air condition would be helpful on hot summer days. The room also had a mini bar/fridge, which was super helpful for us to keep our drinks cold for the next day's trek. Additional positives include: -free bike storage in their bike garage -free use of wellness area, which was quite nice for a small hotel and stayed open until 22:00 (sauna, steam room, showers, and relaxation area) -free and strong wifi (even in the rooms) -breakfast buffet (which was included in our booking) -restaurant on site for convenience (but can't comment as we didn't eat there) -Italian restaurant about 50 meters away We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in this area (though it is about 5-6 kms from "downtown" Friedrichshafen) and especially those cycling around the lake. It was right on our path.

We arrived from Davos after a lot of heavy rain to find Lake Constance bathed in sunshine. We were able to book n and then with advice from the hotel caught a bus to the Zepellin a Museum. While we were in the museum, which was excellent, we had a short rain storm. When we emerged we caught the bus back to Hotel Maier. We then had an excellent meal in their restaurant which was full of regional delicacies. The room was very new and modern but very clean and bright. We had a good night's sleep and heard no road noise. Breakfast was very good and full of variety.

Not geared up for international visitors

We didn't expect the hotel to be so nice.. Pictures don't do it justice... Beautiful decor and comfortable rooms. Located outside the busy town... So it was quite... Within minutes of the lake front. Wonderful walks around. Great and helpful staff...

Hotel on busy main road but good restaurant and modern facilities.

If you're looking for a place downtown, this may not be it. However, I was on a business trip with the DHBW and the location was great for that. The hotel had a good breakfast, and a restaurant. There are other restaurants nearby as well. The only thing that I found to be less than desirable was that the hallways were very stuffy. I would have liked to leave my window open at night and not use the AC, but with the hallways so intensely warm, that didn't work well, and we resorted to using AC.

Good Wellness area

Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was a little small, but clean, quiet and comfortable. Great breakfast. You'd better bring your own toiletries. Limited parking lot.

We enjoyed our one night stay, everything was as described. Nice rooms, friendly service. I would definitely visit again.
