Hay Lane Lodge

It was like home from home except I didn’t have to do the cooking or washing up! Bernard has a great sense of humour and was very attentive to our needs. I liked that we shared the large dining table with other guests and we chatted about our day and our lives at home, they were from abroad. The shower was great! Good pressure and really woke me up. Off road parking was easy too.

There wasn’t anything to dislike. It suited our needs.

Bernard was the perfect host, he made me feel comfortable and made my stay memorable.

The room had not been cleaned properly their were pubes and scum/dust around t the sink, shower and toilet, a layer of dust around the rest of the room and the bed sheets smelt musty, the carpet was dirty and the floor boards were extremely creeky and every time the room above moved it was really loud which affected sleep, all in all a really unacceptable experiences for one that I had to pay for, definitely not the 8.1 that booking.com has it at

Breakfast and relaxed atmosphere

The host was lovely and meant well. My sister does have social anxiety so she struggled with him at breakfast time when he was stood talking whilst trying to eat and making comments she was unsure how to respond to. We were upgraded to the larger room on top floor with extra bed and en suite. Host was accommodating and even offered to make us dinner in the evening if we wanted him to. We had a little fridge in our room to which was a pleasant surprise.

The place seemed to be noisy. Very creaky floorboards, it sounded like someone was playing drums at 1am, you could hear people talking underneath and every door opening and closing. The property is very dated which isn't really a huge issue but cleanliness wasn't brilliant which is a bit of a sting for me and my OCD. It's a big house with lots of rooms and it seems maybe only the owner is doing everything by himself and it may be to big a task I'm not sure.

This was the best! Our host was great! Breakfast was a perfect English breakfast and made to order. My friend doesn't eat red meat, so her breakfast was made to perfection as well. Upon arriving, we were offered dinner. Again, dietary needs were met and she received a beautifully cooked salmon steak. Each morning was a delight to share conversation with other guests, watch birds being fed and the occasional visit from Miss Mindy, the house canine. A visit to the farmers market was a special treat for me. The room was spacious, allowing for privacy for each of us.

It's a bit of a distance from certain things but nothing a short walk, an uber or taxi couldn't remedy.

Very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was simple but very good.
