El Castillo Boutique Luxury Hotel

The views, the staff, the food were amazing! I recommend the Flank Steak with chimichurri and fries for dinner. The pool was at perfect temperature and we enjoyed good coffee on our balcony in the morning! I cannot say enough about the staff. Very welcoming, accommodating and professional.

El Castillo is a true five star experience from the food, views and amazing hospitality. This is our second time traveling down from Canada just to be at this magical place. It’s quaint, quiet and holds to the labels of boutique and luxury. I don’t have enough good things to say about this place, you need to experience it for yourself.

Donny, Francisco, and Roxie delivered the highest level of service. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. We enjoyed the view and exceptional wildlife viewing right from our breakfast spot.

Ocean view rooms are superb! Enormous bed, lovely balcony, quality linens. Fernando and Donny took wonderful care of us. Infinity pool (with drinks service from the bar) was stunning. Food was delicious. I had possibly the best beef tenderloin I'd ever had. Excellent value for money. I can't recommend highly enough!

This hotel is charming and lovely with 5 star rooms and dining. The bar had amazing drinks and it would be a very expensive hotel if it wasn’t directly on the highway. The views of the ocean are breathtaking but it’s literally on top of the highway so you hear and smell trucks and ambulances.

There is so much to say about this boutique hotel I am not sure i can do it justice here in a single review, The staff are attenive but not over bearing, the food is amazing especilly the Tuna and Sea Bass, the rooms are very clean, although interestingly no TV not a problem for us but who needs one when you have balcomny with stunning views and sunsets to watch. The infinity pool is wonderful and to be sitting on the deck or in the pool watching Toucans, Macaws, Carara and Pelicans flying past was simply awe inspiring, as was sitting at breakfast wacthing the monkeys in the trees. The staff are clear on a mission to be the number 1 hotel in the region if not the whole of Costa Rica and I am sure with all the hard work they are putting in they will hit their targets. If there was one thiong that caused us a little concern it was the steep hill and riveway into the hotel, this could be a challenge in a small 2 wheel drive car but with a decent size car or 4x4 its not an issue till you getinto thecar park which is a little cozy and getting out can be a little scary as there is no fence or barrier on the edge of the carpark whcih is for a european disconcerting, but that is a very minor blip in what was other wise the most outstanding relaxing stay. The team organised the Whale watching tour for us and it was simply outstanding, whales dolphins and turtles if you get a chance do take it, there is a short ten minute or so walk from the tour office to the beach where you get your feet wet boarding the boat but for us it was worth every penny spent. We Highly recommend the hotel but mostly the staff, they really know what customer service is. On getting home we concluded that out of the six places we stayed this was by far the best and we stayed at some highly starred placesm in our trip.

The hotel has a fantastic view and is conveniently located for many activities. Francisco is always around to offer a warm welcome and help guests whenever needed, and the manager, Steven is always ready to go the extra mile for whatever you need. A great in-house restaurant with a wide selection of other good places nearby will ensure you never go hungry.

The manager and staff know what customer service is all about. After driving all day we showed up at the front door and the hotel did not have our booking from Expedia. The manager Steve greeted us and immediately saw the anxiety on our faces. He first offered us drink from the bar, on the house, then assured us he would get to the bottom of the matter. A few minutes later Steve told us Expedia had no record of our reservation but he would get to the bottom of things and all would be well. Steve assured us he had made some changes and was able offer us a complementary upgrade to larger suite for the first two days of our stay and then he would be able to move us to the room we had reserved for the remainder of our trip. He didn't ask for a credit card or put any conditions our stay. Steve just did everything in his power to ease our stress and make us feel better. He then offered us dinner for two and a bottle of wine at his expense just make sure. What a masterful execution of customer service. The next day I was able to contact Expedia, who immediately dumped me on their VRBO department. ( why I don't know since our reservation was for a hotel and not a vacation rental). I spent two hours with VRBO before they finally gave me their best offer - Cancel my reservation refund our money! Fortunately Steve was happy to accept the same rates Expedia had offered and our week at the El Castillo was set. What a great experience dealing with someone who knows people and can offer help the way it should be offered. Hats off toe Steve and his entire team. I would be remiss if I didn't actually review the hotel as well though. This is a charming hotel richly appointed in a blend of traditional Latin/Mediterranean style and contemporary design. The common areas are spacious and inviting complimented with books and games to occupy your relaxing time. The infinity pool is centerstage to look through the common areas to an open view of the pacific ocean. Breathtaking views. The food though a bit of a limited offering, was executed beautifully and the chef offered special interpretations on two of the nights we stayed in for dinner. The flavors were truly spectacular and left us with a lingering desire for more. The staff, Francisco, Donny and Roxy attend all our needs with grace and efficiency. Our only constructive comment might be they seemed understaffed during meal times when the hotel was full. Nonetheless we were extremely happy with our stay at El Castillo and would certainly stay there again.
