"Good Ammenities, But Steep Walk Uphill"

6.0

We stayed in an apartment building tucked behind the main Hotel Salinas and appreciated the full kitchen and large space to spread out. We started out with an apartment up the hill further, but we weren't able to get internet reception there, so we requested a room transfer. We would not have booked without internet (yes, we're that sort of people), and we were happy to be moved to another apartment with more consistent internet. Once we had moved our things to the new apartment, I needed to go back to the main desk to request the necessities such as hand soap, bedding, towels, etc., since the room was obviously not ready for guests. There is no cleaning service in these apartment rooms during your stay, so be aware of that. The apartment itself was kind of gloomy with dark wood and outdated decor, but it served our needs well. Be aware that this hotel is situated up a steep hill from the nearest train station and there is no bus service available. The hotel will shuttle you for 7 Swiss Francs. The hotel is also not extremely easy to find. We used online mapping software to locate it, and even then we weren't sure we were going the right way. I almost cried getting from the train station to the hotel with our luggage because of the steep long walk . . . on a hot day. Once we were settled, we considered it exercise to walk up the hill from the train station after our day trips, but that first day it was quite an experience. Also a long way to go to get groceries.

"Family skiing at Aletsch Arena"

8.0

Stayed there for a skiing vacation and made a somewhat late booking. The room is part of a apartment complex where the Hotel partly rents own and also other's apartments. Both major parts of the hotel and the apartments are very clean but somewhat worn out in their early-seventies-vintage style, but still ok. A Mico Oven would have done more than well... The stuff is very friendly and compensates well for all this and the rental price as such seems to be fair for swiss levels. The Spa department of the hotel is obviously quite new and nice. Don't miss it! Hotel guests get somewhat reduced (however swiss) entrance prices. The hotel offers a very flexible taxi service between the hotel and the cable car to Aletsch since the road is VERY steep which should be considered when booking (distance hotel-apartment is only some minute, but down to the cable car it's a challenging walk...). The village as such does offer only some necessities like a super market. But the alpine scene is magnified both from the valley and from the skiing area! If you do not fear the swiss price level the Taverne Restaurant (which obviously belongs also to the hotel) is worth a try although if also here the environment looks not that fresh on the first sight. The chef and the staff are skilled in fact and food and service are outstanding.

Very simple, clean, well supplied apartments. Appreciated the chance to make my own meals during the trip. One downside, the wifi is only available in the hotel where you check in, down the hill and road from the apartment.

"Excellent"

The apartment was very roomy, clean and well equipped except for dishwashing soap which was provided when we asked. main issue I had with the place is that it is not very suitable if you do not have a car. The unit is about a 20 min walk up hilll from the train station as it is more or less on the side of the mountain. If you are not very fit it would take longer and especially if you have a big bag. I would stay here again if I had a car but not if I was taking the train.

well provisioned apartment with good space and facilities. Friendly & helpful staff. Decour bit old fashioned. Comfort rated low as apartment and bedding smell of a smoker.
