"Very cozy place to stay for a recharge, but..."

8.0

Kind of remote location, hard to find and have to call the host to pick me up at Sun Moon Lake. If you go there by bus you will easily miss the station. Very good enviornment (3 dogs, 2 chicken), comfortable bed and clean washroom. There are around 7 free bikes for guests to borrow, you can bike around 3 minutes to 7-11 or bike another direction for about 7 minutes to get some street food.

"The friendliest hosts!"

10.0

This B & B looked like it could have been dropped in Taiwan from Northern California. Very simple rooms, nicely decorated with patios, tables and chairs scattered here and there. The hosts are so friendly and helpful, especially the soon to be wife. Whenever she had free time she offered to take my here and there. Once even coming to fetch me from a restaurant (a delicious hot pot place in the little town) to see if I wanted to go back to the lake to see the temple lit up at night! And since she felt a lunch from the local 7-11 was not healthy she scootered me over to the bakery to pick up something for my bus trip. The one drawback is the location. It`s no problem to take the bus from the corner 2 or 3 stops to Sun Moon Lake or the Aboriginal Village but the last bus back is pretty early and I don`t know what time the first bus is. So if you`re interested in seeing the sunrise or sunset over the lake (it`s often so misty you can`t), this probably isn`t the right place for you. But if that isn`t a priority I`m sure this B &' B is much nicer than the hotels at Sun Moon Lake. You can take the Nantou Bus from the Taichung HSR or regular train station to SanYu (a couple of stops before Sun Moon Lake). There is a neon sign pointing the way as well as a sign for the Adventist College which is at the end of the street. You can walk into the little town for dinner at a small restaurant or street shop. 10 - 15 minutes from the hotel. I had a wonderful stay.

"be careful - located in yuchi, not sun moon lake"

10.0

we made the mistake of reading a review and thinking this was at sun moon lake. we took the "express" bus from taipei (drops off in sun moon lake) but then there was no way for us to get to the hotel - cabs and buses are infrequent at 8pm. thankfully, a very kind shopowner called the hotel for us and they sent someone down to pick us up. they were super friendly and super helpful, making sure we had maps and tips for the best places to stop along the lake for views/photos. the bus in the morning was also pretty sporadic so the gal who'd picked us up (along with her fiance whose english is quite good) ended up dropping us at the lake and getting us set up with rental bikes. only downsides were the dogs on the property who barked at guests (including us) at random hours and that we didn't realize we were not right at sun moon lake. if you do the taipei bus, get off at yuchi (2nd to last stop) and it's a 5-minute walk. they have a huge neon sign telling you where to turn and another one right outside the place so it's not as hard to find as a prior review that we read. if you take the bus to sun moon lake, it should be about 26NT one way - hold onto your small change. room itself was clean, spacious and had a fridge. internet connection was awesome!

"Very friendly."

Doris and partner made us feel very welcome and did everything they could to help us with our travel plans. They shuttled us to the lake and even took us to see fireflies one evening.

"Lovely place but hard to find!"

8.0

Well It wasn't easy to find on google and you really need the name of the place in Chinese characters written on the website otherwise it's very hard to tell people what you are looking for. Trying to pronounce "Yuchi" to a local correctly is extremely difficult if you can't speak Mandarin since it is a tonal language, if any tones are wrong a Mandarin speaker will not understand you. Luckily my friend in Taiwan wrote down all the characters for me to show the bus station at Taichung. The location of the hotel is 5 minutes from the bus stop, unfortunately a cabbie charged us $100TWD for a 500m ride! Now outside the hotel doesn't look amazing, but once you get in the room it's a different world. The interior is nice with dark furnishings, modern toilet and bathroom and flat screen tv, new air con, choice of various lotions and a Taiwanese version of a full English is served for breakfast. You can also take the bikes for a spin, there is a college nearby where you can cycle around if you sign in at the gate. Our host Jason was friendly with lots of good advice for getting to Sun Moon lake and he even drove us down there for free. Overall we enjoyed our stay only minor gripe was the blanket was too thick and it was a hot muggy night so the aircon was blasting away all night!
