The Royal Hotel Campbeltown

Recently renovated 100+ year old hotel, now owned by Macrihanish Dunes Golf Course people. We were amazed by the room size. Huge bath with excellent shower. Great beds. Just a really neat throwback experience with modern comforts. Good food and breakfast in the restaurant. Parking on the street was surprisingly easy and free.

The weather on arrival! Heavy rains with gale force winds (literally), but the hotel was dry and the haunting sound of the gale outside was cool. Really no complaints at all.

Food was excellent

The staff were very friendly at the hotel and in the restaurants. They went above and beyond to accommodate an early breakfast at 5:30 am before we departed. The room was very nice, high quality bedding, great views of the town, etc. really enjoyed the stay and if we come back to Campbeltown, I would not think twice about booking here again.

Wifi sehr schlecht!!

The room was large and Bathroom too. Bed was very large and comfortable. Hotel well sited though being in the centre meant it was a bit noisy at times even in Campbeltown !

Staff were clearly harassed and short in numbers so a lot of bickering between them. Service was slow even when Bar not that busy. Breakfast was adequate at best though cooked options were all reasonable. Often run out of basics and continually asked for replacements. Never had a towel change or bed linen change despite staying a week , toilet materials only replaced when asked for and don't think the room had a hoovering throughout our stay either. Staying here not cheap but felt like it.

Beautiful accessible room, elegant decor and clean crisp linen. Although appearing slightly short staffed at times, the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Would particularly like to mention Leanna in the restaurant. She never stopped, was totally unflappable, and every request on top of the breakfast or dinner service was met with a smile. The hotel very kindly posted on an item we left behind. Would definitely return.

A shame there is no car park. Parking was limited due to an event so my husband dropped me and parked the car a way down the main street.

Staff and food were excellent. I would like to mention a young barman named Malcom who was very much on the ball and made us very welcome in The Black Sheep Bar.

Room needs a makeover, very poor lighting, unpaited plaster work on wall and ceiling which was unsightly. Shower head broke whilst having shower which we had to wait for maintenance to fix.
