"Excellent stay."

10.0

Very warm welcome from Lindsey and her staff. Location and Room excellent. Ideal location for touring St Andrews. Staff local knowledge was excellent with regards things to do and places to eat. Ideal location for golfers with a 5mi s if that walk to course. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

"Nice Stay :)"

8.0

We had a very nice stay in St Andrew’s. The hotel is located close to the old golf course, castle ruins and market street. All reachable by foot. The receptionist, Lindsay, was very kind and warm and gave us some great recommendations for our trip :)

"Overrated"

4.0

A great location and great views—but that’s about all this place has going for it. We were told there’s no lift but the room was “just a few steps up.” It was actually 2 full flights up, with a section of carpet on the staircase coming undone. There was a well-worn sign on the wall to watch for this unattached carpeting—how about fixing the problem instead of making a sign? The room looked and felt like a dorm. “Basic” would be a kind description. And then there were the seagulls…shrieking all day (and night) at top volume. It was hot and stuffy in the room so no choice but to TRY to sleep with the windows open. Thanks to those gulls, I gave up at 4am. On the “plus” side, I got to watch the sunrise. 🌅

"Ok for 3 star"

4.0

Checking in was first class. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Issues I had are with the building itself. Staircase up to the room in the annex was needing replaced as it was brown and unwelcoming, not hoovered either. Room we had was dark and tight, endure almost against the bed, crammed and tight. Sink unit edge was rotting. Worst thing is the room window, they are old sash windows with a secondary heavy inside glazing panel. Neither of them held as their safety catches were broken and on opening I almost lost the top of my finger when it slammed down. If a child touched these even slightly would be a nasty accident!

"It’s all about location and nothing else."

6.0

While location is great the rooms are not. Small, out dated, and feels dirty. The carpet in our room was not vacuumed once during our week long stay. We had to ask for towels that were not replaced with housekeeping service. Glassware wasn’t replaced after the first night. The breakfast was great. Rooms are hard to get to. Small staircase with carpet nailed down in places. Be prepared with heavy golf bags and suitcases. They do offer daily laundry which was very convenient. The restaurant and bar are closed. Will not stay again.

"Older hotel but perfect location"

8.0

The hotel is the perfect location. It's within walking distance of the Old Course and all food/shopping in St. Andrews. There is a free public parking lot close by, so we were able to park our car and walk the entire time we were in St. Andrews. The hotel and room itself were not particularly updated, but they were clean. Compared to other hotels in the area, the price was good for the location but matched the quality of the rooms. Would still recommend, just depends on your travelling style!

"Disappointing Hotel in St Andrews"

4.0

The room was nothing like the promotional pictures. The ceiling was so low that I could put my hand flat on the ceiling while standing normally - and I am not very tall. The view was of a small, dingy courtyard that was being used to store a ladder. The bathroom was tiny and the fittings (especially the shower stall) were cheap. The bath towel was badly frayed. It was really quite disappointing given the price of the hotel.

"Don’t be fooled"

4.0

The Ardgowan is batting weigh above its weight. It’s a 2 to 3 star establishment at best however, charging customers far more than what is being delivered. Don’t be fooled by the photos, The Ardgowan is significantly overpriced. Not recommended.

"Highly recommend this wee gem of a hotel!"

10.0

I stayed for two nights. I had a great wee room which was far too hot, but unlike some other old buildings, the windows opened and so I was very comfortable. Great wee shower, hairdryer, kettle and tv - what more could I need? Breakfasts were good, particularly the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon which was absolutely delicious. The two staff members I met were great, very professional and helpful. It’s an easy walk into the centre of St. Andrews and although there was no parking at the hotel, there is free long term parking within a 5 min walk. Thanks for looking after me so well!
