"Rough around the edges but we loved it overall!"

9.0

We loved the views. And seeing the seals in the bay! Mairead was a lovely host, really easy to get in contact with any questions. It was peaceful and quiet, and we all had plenty of space! The glass windows are beautiful to look out onto the water through. We enjoyed sitting outside and soaking it all in! The wildlife all around is great to see.

It’s a little rough around the edges, it could do with freshening up outside and inside. It’s very 90s and the rendering is crumbling. But it didn’t really bother us that much, and wouldn’t stop us from coming back here as it is still a really lovely house inside. The only thing to consider is it is not walking distance to anything nearby, and taxis are extremely expensive in this area (and that’s no exaggeration, it’s insane prices). So you absolutely need a car here, but with a car everything is within 10-20 minutes away. (If you do get a cab here, ask the owner for Mary the cab drivers number. She’s great!)

"Not what is seems"

2.0

Location was quiet and close to Kinsale for Supermarkets.

Dining room chairs were rickety, and the two settees sagged. Many windows lacked blinds or netting for full privacy and bedroom curtains were so thin they did nothing to keep out light which spoiled sleep quality. The Emersion heater timer never worked and the only way to get hot water was to keep operating the boost. When making a booking we were given an entry security code for the main gates which is laughable because they don't exist. Just a lonely forgotten old box stuck on the wall. Only five houses are really available for Holiday accommodation as the others are under Private ownership. When new in 2006, I’m sure they were nice, but they have been neglected for a long time, so don’t be taken-in by the online photos. The downstairs was covered in live and dead Woodlice and we had to vacuum the whole area before bringing-in our luggage. We also found cobwebs everywhere at every level plus spider sacs complete with mothers and full sets of baby spiders in the bedrooms, and the uncountable numbers of youngsters were spreading fast. The numbers of Woodlice and Spiders was so high for our first three days that we were unable to keep count. We found one large Spider in the bed which we believe bit my Wife on the leg and required the application of hydrocortisone cream for a few days. On our third day we bought Woodlice powder and sprinkled it in a number of places on the ground floor, but they never stopped coming and our final count was 209 Woodlice and 29 Spiders not counting our first 3 days or the hordes of baby spiders, and because of this we were never able to settle comfortably into the house which took the shine off our Holiday completely and we were more than happy to return home. If you are okay with these standards then fair enough, but there is no possible way that we can recommend this one.

Great view, and a lovely spacious house! You get all the necessities, such as tea, sugar, handwash, cleaning products, etc., and the kitchen is fully equipped too, so you can easily cook something yourself or have a nice barbecue outside. The agency, Trident Holiday Homes, is also very quick to help with questions and problems, and both Mairéad and Jacqui have been a pleasure to deal with!

The house is further from Kinsale as the listing suggests. It's not necessarily a bad thing (I reckon the distance stated in the listing might be aerial distance), but should be kept in mind as it takes ~15 minutes to get to Kinsale - and you absolutely need a car!
