Quinta da Foz

Wonderful history in the building. The top floor is full of original items and artwork and the owners will give you a tour through it and there are a couple of amazing things to see there. The Quinta continues to be home to many animals, including about 10 peacocks that roam around and add a natural beauty. The owners and staff were all very very friendly.

The exterior of the buildings are a bit tired, it could use paint, etc. But that didn't really bother me at all, and it did not detract from my Stay.

Quinta do Foz, somewhat to our surprise, turned out to be a top destination all by itself for our three week road trip through Portugal and Spain. Our last lodging location for our 4000 KM trip, we arrived road‑weary and hoping for a restful, charming place to unwind — and this exceeded every expectation. The main estate building is a 450‑plus‑year‑old manor house, expertly updated while retaining all of its historic charm. We were first greeted by Fátima, so warm and welcoming you’d think she were a dear family member, and she gave us a fascinating tour of this working farm. Peacocks roam freely and call out frequently, and we loved seeing the ducks, horses, chickens, and other animals. Our room was so large as to feel like a house all by itself. Later, Francisco Calado and his gracious mother, who oversee the estate, offered us a generous and wonderfully informative extended tour of the property. A sizable historic chapel is located within the main building. Thank you for your friendly hospitality! You could easily base an entire vacation in Portugal at this one centrally located spot, and I regret not spending more days here.

There was nothing not to like about this place. When we drove up to the property the signage identifying it was a little hard to figure out.

Very quiet place with lots of friendly animals. The staff was absolutely extraordinary and took the time to explain the history of the house and make sure the fireplace was on while we were eating breakfast.
