Casa Rural Areano

The traditional house is located in a mountainous setting with great views. I slept like a baby at night, fresh air coming in through the window and total absence of traffic sounds... We woke up to the smell of roast tostadas and really enjoyed breakfast with Mikel as a host and a couple we would engane in conversation with. Mikel helped us make the best of the chilly rainy days. Thank you again, Mikel, we had a memorable stay and are grateful for your hospitality!

The "Salon" or joint living rooms looks more welcoming and comfy on the pictures. We found it a bit cold (temperature and ambiance) on the chilly, rainy nights, but did appreciate the tea and coffee making facilities. - It is a lovely old traditional house with wooden floors, but the sounds from the surrounding rooms are audible. Luckily, peace and quietness would install around 11 pm, so we slept well!

- Great breakfast with delicious cakes made by the host - The host had extensive information about the cities (Bilbao, San Sebastián, Victoria and other cities in the area) - rooms were clean an cosy with basque rural atmosphere - it was central to the cities we were planning to visit

Mikel, the proprietor, was helpful and accomodating to our late arrival and our request for room type. The room was cozy and comfortable with a clean private bathroom. The continental breakfast included organic muffins made by Mikel.

It would be nice if there was a small choice of breads, cheeses, nuts, or something for late arrivals. They do not serve lunch or dinner though, so nothing was available other than some fruit. We were late though so that was our fault.

The old house is located at an amazing spot surrounded by nature. It features a shared living room and terrace to spend time reading or finding peace in the quite space. Mikel made us feel at home right away. His hospitality and information on the area were invaluable! Don't miss the breakfast and the homemade delicacies!

A special and tranquil place. The casa is in a beautiful and rural location. Also a great location from which you can explore mountains, beaches, cities of Bilbao or San Sebastián. Whatever takes your fancy. Probably easiest if you have a car. Although there are lots of great hikes in the area, on the doorstep and plenty of clean mountain air 😍. Breathe it in, it’s good for your soul. Lots of wildlife and nature to see. The room was great, comfy bed and powerful hot shower. A nice lounge to relax in the evening with alcohol and soft drinks available to purchase if you happen to want refreshments - a great idea. There’s an outdoor terrace to enjoy with the best views for miles. The breakfast was spot on. Mikel is a fantastic host, with lots of recommendations for where to go and what to do, he is very knowledgable and also has good baking skills. He’s a talented, great person.
