Residenza Dutzu - Aparthotel Leiria

The upp floor apt unit is accessible by stairs which only light-up nearer the 1st level. A bit challenging with bringing our luggage up/down. The Cathedral paid carpk is within 3-5min walking distance (but note the access hours). Quiet as it is away from the town centre. It has an equipped kitchen and fridge so you can cook. Clean & well-maintained.

Noticed tt the shops/units opp. the lodging are not occupied & vacant. So quite isolated. It appears tt the units are rented on double-bed room basis. So it is important to specify if you want twin-sharing. The owner came down to reset the beds in a few hours. Good recovery. The pre-checkin instructions missed out on turning a knob so we hv to call to get into the apt.

Residenza Dutzu was the perfect choice for our visit to Leiria. The apartment is excellent, centrally located in the heart of the city with plenty of restaurants nearby. It's also just a short walk to the castle. Cecilia was a wonderful host, always ready to help with any questions about the town.

We had a great time. I booked 2 separate beds, but it turned out that I had to write and clarify that I wanted them to be separate. However, the host was ready to help immediately and this didn't disturb our stay at all. Thank you!

Kitchen table and chairs were a little uncomfortable and bigger, plusher towels would be nice with better soap.

Residentza Dutzu is in a central location in Leiria old town near the castle, shops and cathedral. It has a very convenient self service laundry next door. The proprietor Cecilia runs a gift shop under the apartments too and is available daily. The bedroom had a big comfortable bed and the bathroom was small but modern. However, on our first morning the toilet cistern stopped working. We let Cecilia know and she replied the cistern was fine but that we had pressed the buttons on the cistern wrongly. We were very nervous about using the toilet and the next morning it stopped working again. There is clearly a problem with this and hopefully Cecilia will sort this for future guests. The wifi was good but the TV had lots of missing channels.

Cecilia showed us how to use the number combination lock on the street door and then a different number lock on the apartment door. She emphasised that we had to use these in a certain way to prevent problems. This involved turning a lock clockwise or anticlockwise and not more than a half turn. Then she insisted we try this in front of her. If we don't follow her instructions, she would have to come out and reprogramme the locks. We found the instructions baffling and were nervous using these. It did affect our stay. Comfortable chairs to sit on in the evening is important to us but the apartment just had four folding hard wooden chairs which weren't very comfortable. The apartment came with a terrace to sit outside but we found this was accessed by climbing wooden stairs and crawling out of a small window! We've attached photos. We are an older couple in our late sixties and didn't attempt to climb out of the window. You need good mobility to tackle this. There was a table and chairs on the terrace but it hadn't been cleaned and extractor fans from the laundry downstairs blasted the terrace with humid steamy air! We also noticed the towel rail hadn't been put up properly and came off the wall. Some of the bath towels were old and worn. We could see our hands through them. Finally, the soundproofing was poor. We could hear people talking and 'getting friendly' upstairs!
