It wasn't as clean The bath was what we wanted, but there was no plug. The utensils weren't clean. Showers was not clean, including the shower mate given. Toilet had a loud noise when refilling Other guests parked us close and couldn't go in and out. Bad mold in the room. Some funny smell One towel for 2 people One soap for 1

It is easily accessible

Parking is a problem. The owner lives off the facility and there is no one to help in case of need, e.g. if one has to leave early.

Friendly staff. Very clean.

Wi-Fi very slow

We had a good time there. It's clean and the staff are welcoming. We liked the cosy, beautiful atmosphere and safety

The swimming pool is dirty therefore we couldn't swim. There is no breakfast, you have to pay for it separately. There were no keys to the other room, we had to wait for an hour before we could get the keys. There were no shampoo in the shower, neither there were toilet papers in both rooms for the whole day😡, even though we requested, we had to call again the next morning and they were delivered after 2 hours😥

Sondela is a fantastic guesthouse in Aliwal North that checked all the right boxes for a night's stay while driving back to Joburg from Hogsback. Even on a sub-zero winter's night, the heating kept the room warm. And thanks for the owner warning me that pipes tend to freeze overnight in such a remote inland area of South Africa, I managed to take a piping hot shower just before going to bed. Parking is secure. The internet worked well (albeit dropping a few times). There are a few eating places nearby and you don't really need to get out of your way to have a comfortable stay here. Highly recommended!
