"Quiet get-a-way"

10.0

I spent 3 nights in a unit called Tortuga. Lots of people there either rented a tent or brought their own. We traveled there from Ackumel Bay. Took 4hrs on the worst roads I have ever traveled. Lots of pot holes, craters in the road. Recommend a higher SUV. We bumped the bottom of our rental a few times going as slow as 10km/hr. Cost us 1350 pesos to get into to nature reserve area to drive to our destination. Our room was very small. Shower was ok with hot water. Mosquito net over bed. Resturant on site made delicious meals with good portions though not a lot of options. Beach was beautiful and water refreshing. Was quite windy the first day and then calmed down. My husband saw a dolphin swim by. Small town walking distance. Resturants in walking distance. Quiet and relaxing. Did get a few bites. Plenty of shade available. Lounge chairs.

Very friendly staff, beautiful location and place. The bumpy road to get there is very bumpy however thanks to this, it is a peaceful and quiet place in comparison with the very touristy Tulum.

We were unlucky with the weather as a storm brought in sargassum and plastic junk onto the shore.

"Adorabile!"

10.0

"Magical"

10.0

We had the most amazing time here. We took our kids 13 & 15 and stayed in 2 glamping tents. Our 2 tents were away from others and literally on the beach front. The tents are beautifully kept. Good quality sheets and towels and they clean the tents daily. Each tent has power, a light and a fan at the end of each long double bed (2 per tent). We had some items we wanted kept cold and the staff kindly kept these in the kitchen fridge for us, we’d just go and get them whenever we needed. We had milk and cheese, ham, mayo etc to make cereal for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch some days. The restaurant food was good, just a few items but expected with it’s location. Often we felt like we were the only ones there - like it was our own private beach! Marta was in charge and looked after us so well. She has a fantastic team, everyone is so friendly, it was sad to say goodbye. Marta went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time, including taking us for a drive to a different part to swim and fish for a few hours. We went on the boat tour an saw dolphins, turtles, amazing bird life and went snorkeling and swimming- definitely do this. The village is very small. There are 2 small stores that sell food etc and depending what day it is this can even include fresh breads and pastries. There are a handful of beachfront restaurant/ bars, half the time they look closed but you just go in and someone will appear to serve you. We had no issues with food and drink here (including ice) and the hotel provides water to help yourself to. We didn’t drink any tap water but did brush our teeth with it. The shared bathroom and toilet facilities at the hotel/camp are great, cleaned constantly and great hot showers. The grounds are so clean and tidy, there’s always someone pottering away sweeping and tidying. They have hammocks and tables and chairs on the beach and seating in the covered restaurant area. They had the cornhole game on the beach and other games and balls you can use. One thing that we struggled with walking to town (5mins) if we went along the beach, was the rubbish that gets washed in from the sea- so sad. They kept the hotel/camp area cleaned daily though. The drive- wow, it was tough- it took us 2.5hrs to get there from Tulum. The whole way was huge water filled potholes/small lakes! We were in an suv, others made it in smaller cars but I would recommend an suv! Because of this drive being so difficult, we didn’t get out and explore other parts of the area like we thought we would, so really didn’t need the car. You can boat in from Tulum so I’d probably do that next time to save on renting a car and doing that drive. If you want absolute relaxation and down time then this magical place is perfect. I’ve never slept so well or felt so relaxed. Thank you again Marta and team :)
