We really liked the place. It had a nice garden, everything you could want in an accomodation and even kids toys for the little ones. It was quite big and we got an information of the host in advance about the lack of restaurants/shops around the place.

The only thing we didn’t like was that the insides of the kitchen (drawers, fridge, freezer) weren’t very clean. The rest of the house was good though.

Spacious and well-equipped house; it was good to be able to cook meals instead of eating out every night. Bed in the main bedroom was comfortable. Shower also good. We had some chilly nights during our stay; the heat pump worked well to keep us cozy inside. We suspect had the weather not been overcast at night while we were there, we would have had some good stargazing. We appreciated the washing machine, as well as the outdoor clothesline and the portable clothes airer (we don't like to use tumble driers if the weather is pleasant enough). The house is a short walk to the Waikawa Museum, and short drives to Niagara Falls and Curio Bay (visiting the Petrified Forest at low tide is well worth it). Good communication with the owner, Pip, who gave us information about local places to eat. Overall, we enjoyed staying at Waikawa House and would stay here again.

As some others have said, internet access with the house would be nice - but we were also aware of the lack of internet when booking and came anyway because the property sounded lovely (as it was). Be aware that Waikawa is a *small* country town, as in, while there are a couple of cafes/takeaways in the area, there are no supermarket or petrol station in town. It is best to stock up before you come to the area. The cafe/restaurant/shop at Tumu Toka CurioScape in Curio Bay has a *very* limited range of groceries, after that your nearest options are the Tokanui Food Centre (fuel available here too), and supermarkets in Edendale, and Wyndham.

No wifi

Waikawa House was the perfect base to explore the Catlins. It was spacious, clean, fully equipped and cosy and the support from the hosts was fantastic.

Very spacious accommodation. Well equipped, clean and comfortable. Games and books and a barbecue available. Sadly not the weather for a barbecue when we were there! Very quiet location with lots of birds in the garden. Easy access to Curio bay (saw the dolphins and a yellow-eyed penguin) Could happily have stayed longer at the house.

Sehr großes Haus mit einigen Schlafzimmern, alles sehr geräumig. Tolle Lage auf einem großen grünen Grundstück mitten in der ländlichen Umgebung. Möbel sind teilweise schon etwas abgewohnt und die Technik ist nicht immer auf dem neuesten Standard, aber es funktioniert alles. Gut für größere Gruppen oder Familien. Wäre perfekt, wenn es Internet-Anschluss gäbe.

Internet wird nicht angeboten, dies ist das einzige Manko bei dieser Unterkunft. Auch das Mobil-Telefonnetz ist auf altem Standard (3G?) - so konnten wir auch unseren privaten Access-Point nicht einsetzen. Unterkunft ist also gut, wenn man digitale Entwöhnung machen will. Internet basierte Streaming-Dienste im TV gibt da natürlich auch nicht.

Very clean and cosy. Lovely decor and gardens were spacious and beautiful.

The house is set in a beautiful garden off the road. Lovely modern home, clean, spacious with all the amenities we needed. Comfortable beds. Amazing stay.
