I asked for a room with balcony. But there are as such no balcony in the room

Feeling awesome....

The location was fine

I've been traveling in India for almost 3 weeks now, and this is by far the worst property I've ever stayed at (in fact, even in all the years of using Booking.com). I arranged to stay in Puducherry specifically for New Year's Eve. I arrived later than planned due to a delayed bus, so the staff had ample time to ready the room. On arrival, the room and bathroom smelled bad, and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly in years. The airconditioner didn't work (using the fan and leaving windows open weren't an option due to the mosquitoes). The duvet and pillow inners smelled like they had never been washed in years (the pillows definitely looked the part-dirty brown covered in stains). The WiFi didn't work. When pointing all this out to the staff, they tried to deny everything and gaslight me into thinking all was well and I was being unreasonable. Eventually they took it upon themselves to change the bedding and try and fix the AC. All this is now occuring before midnight, with people in and out of the room well beyond the NYE countdown. At some point the owner pitches up, and states they would reduce the room rate and attend to the AC again at 10am. By the time I had the room to myself and was able to refresh myself, it was too late to go out. By 11am that morning, no one had arrived, and I give up waiting and decide to go for breakfast. On returning someone eventually comes, proceeds to tinker with the AC that involved flooding the balcony and tracking dirt through the room. Took about 90min all in all, and in the end, it made no difference to the function of the AC. By now I had given up pursuing the AC issue. I was told someone would come clean the room. I couldn't leave as I still needed to shower and get dressed. After waiting some time, I call the owner, and was told someone would come in 15 min.
