BIG4 Tasman Holiday Parks - South Mission Beach

The location of the beachfront cabins overall is wonderful, with direct views of the palm tree lined beach, ocean and surrounding islands. Seeing cassowaries walk through the park and right beside our cabin was a highlight. We enjoyed being able to order from the cafe and listen to live music as soon as we arrived on Sunday afternoon - we were even able to purchase eggs and almond milk for breakfast. My child liked the swimming pool and playground and we appreciated the shallow child's play area at the pool as the water was quite cold being the cooler months. We also enjoyed the gluten free options at the Bowerbird Pantry within short walking distance of the Park.

We were placed in the disabled access beachfront room right behind the park's 20+ rubbish bins. They partially block the beach view and cause odours throughout the day, and a lot of noise in the mornings during collection which seems to happen every couple of days. There was also a family rummaging through bins each day looking for cans and bottles to cash in, which further contributed to the odour. Unfortunately I booked the beachfront cabin specifically for the beachfront bar and bunkbeds as pictured in the description online - but the disabled access room didn't have either of these features. I offered my child the sofa bed in the living room as a compromise to the fun of a bunkbed, only to realise at bed time the sofa bed had soiled sheets and blankets from a previous guest. It was too late to report to front office so we let them know the next morning. When we returned from our activities, we'd found the cleaning staff had dropped off 1 sheet and 1 blanket, but hadn't made up the sofa or taken the soiled bedding. Later that day we again went to make up the sofa only to realise the new blanket provided was also soiled and unclean. We tried reporting to reception's after-hours contact but had no response until the next day. Also due to the bathroom being accessibility designed, the shower has no base and only has a shower curtain which leads to the whole bathroom flooding and no mop was provided. This led to a few slips during our stay and sodden towels which aren't replaced during the stay. If it was cheap caravan park rates I wouldn't even mention it, but at about $800 for 3 nights it didn't feel like good value for money and next time I'd probably choose to stay at a serviced motel or a private Airbnb in a quieter location, or specifically request a non-disabled access room unless you need it.

Saw a Cassowary in the park with it's babies, it was very special. Also the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful!
