A truly unique, charming property with beautiful tropical gardens and private cabanas. The shared kitchen with coffee machine and complimentary coffee was a nice touch for early risers like us. The 24/7 use of the pool was a bonus. Also loved having a restaurant on site that served up amazing brunch, coffee, and fresh orange juice. Rates were reasonable and the location was great, within walking distance to markets, restaurants, and the beach. I also took advantage of the on-site massage service and enjoyed a private massage inside my room.

The use of perfumes/scented cleaning products was an issue. But this was immediately addressed after raising it with the staff and they refrained from using these for the rest of our stay.

Good location if you have a car, with excellent restaurants within 5-15mins driving. Walk to beach pleasant across mangrove swamp on raised walkway. Owner and staff very pleasant, knowledgeable of area, and helpful. Restaurant area good place to relax during day with a beer or coffee. Not open for dinner although this may be changing. Accommodations very attractive, clean and well maintained although bathroom lighting in our unit at least was inadequate. Good size bathroom with lots of hot water for shower.

Breakfast selections too limited, trendy and large although imaginative, delicious and well prepared. More late brunch than early breakfast. Would be more user friendly, in my estimation, by adding to menu a selection of more traditional items such as cereals and toast to which eggs, bacon, sausage or whatever could be added. Absence of fruit plate from menu, although available on request, rather surprising.

The entire property was very nicely laid out, with individual cottages close to the swimming pool but sufficiently secluded for quietness and privacy, and surrounded by trees and shrubs. The cottages are very nicely designed, spacious and well-appointed. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. We enjoyed the relative isolation of Playa Avellana - such a pleasant contrast with Tamarindo! Overall, a very pleasant stay in a lovely property.

The road connecting the property and Playa Avellana is unmetalled, so it was a bit of a pain getting to and from the main road (about 10 km). However, the poor quality of the road is presumably something that keeps the hordes away from the area, so in some sense it was a bit of a blessing.

The pool, the garden and the open air kitchen. The staff was very kind and helpful.

There was bad smell from siphon and the sofa was not comfortable for sleeping (is more like an office sofa). Would exchange it for single bed. A net on the window would be nice.

Lovely and well maintained gardens and fantastic sea water pool. Short walk to an absolutely stunning and relatively quiet beach. The brunch is fantastic and utterly delicious.

Overall, we had a great time - it's a very chilled and beautiful place. Two small issues: the family size room was on the small side for a family with two kids. The double bed was extremely uncomfortable.

SoulShine truly does make your soul shine! Our family of four had an amazing time in Playa Avellanas and our stay at SoulShine was perfect. The owners make you feel at home and the beautiful landscaping make you feel as if you are staying in a secret jungle hideaway. The pool area is both gorgeous and relaxing and the breakfasts were delicious. A highlight was the family of howler monkeys in the tree just behind our cabana.

We enjoyed all aspects of our stay. There really wasn't anything else we could ask for. Having access to the delicious coffee before the restaurant opens at 8 would have been nice, but we truly had a wonderful stay.
