"Cheap for Hongkong but definitely not cheerful"

2.0

If your reading this then you're probably looking for budget accommodation in Hongkong as I did. If you look at my previous reviews I have traveled around most of South East Asia and given many honest reviews. In respect of the Payless guesthouse before I go any further it is in a great location. But in my opinion that is the only good thing I can say. To get into the building you have to steer your way around all the watch salesmen and tailors which does get tiresome. The building is old, rundown and dirty, once you manage to find reception you might be lucky if someone's actually in but then again it does double up as a bedroom so knock loud. Our room was small and I mean small with an on suite shed called a toilet/shower room lol. It was grubby and noisy the bedding although clean was in Burberry check ha! When you return in the evening you have to queue up for the elevator which takes six people max and seen as the building has thirteen floors you will have to wait some time to get up to your room all the time the salesmen will be badgering you. If I was to go back to hongkong I would budget extra for accommodation. Tip avoid this place.

"Shady place"

2.0

We bought a package from Air Asia. Didnt look careful hotel options. My own fault. Entrance was allready may I say interesting. People qued to one elevator, other was out of order. Entrance was in shady alley with shady people offering their guest houses. Hole block is full off guesthouses to pick. Dont. Put some extra bucks and find another place. We did so after one night, came too late to find another option for first night. IF budjet is your ONLY issue, maybe. Room was clean but tiny. Shower is over toilet seat in very tiny wc. Corridors and staircases terrible, straight from hell. Noisy. Choose this IF you are real backpacker and love excotic danger. Only positive thing is free wifi and noisy AC. Helpfull and kind receptionist !

"Great for the price."

8.0

We are a family with a 8 month old baby. We took the triple room to get more space, which was a good idea and worth the extra bucks. Some rooms are closet without windows, but our room, the 606 on the 6th floor, is a corner room that has 2 windows with a view on Nathan Road. Bring your blindfold and earplugs for a better sleep, but honnestly, I expected a lot more action. Great location for a first time. I think next time we'll go more towards MTR Prince Edwards where there is more small restaurants. Note: we spent the week without the stroller. We carried the baby with our baby carrier. Easier to get into the small elevator and go quickly and easily around the city. And people there love babies! We got smiles from everybody, they touch the head and hands all the time and took pictures.
