Øyjorden Apartment

The outstanding view - even on a rainy day this apartment is stunning. It is closer to the centre than it appears. We got a light railway from the airport to the centre and then a taxi. I wish I had known the frequency of the bus that stops pretty much outside the door - 16E. It’s great! (No 4 is also available down the bottom of the hill and is is a 5 min walk away - it looks like the airport bus is also at the stop). If you buy a Bergen pass the light railway and bus is free (the taxi cost over 350K for 7 mins!). I would really recommend the pass as it also gives you access to the KODE galleries and discount on the fjord tours (both highly recommended). There are a couple of shops about 5 mins walk down the hill - although check opening times. If you arrive late they will be closed so it would be best to pick up something in the airport of city centre unless you are planning on going out. Across the road you can access marked routes over some fantastic hills, passing small lakes - get great views. And if you really want (and have a head for heights) walk down the steps into Bergen. The apartment has everything that you need to prepare and cook, although we noticed (as per other reviews) that there are only two working stools at the breakfast bar unless you sit on the sofa. We sat outside at the table a couple of times - despite the weather; it is quite sheltered. The beds are high but super comfortable and again you get the most amazing views. The owner is very fast at communicating and is easy and friendly to contact. Top tip - take a torch (we were there in winter). The entrance to the apartment is to the left (there are two doors) and we could not work out how to put the outside light on therefore a torch was handy to walk round the pathway and put in the door code.

Just a few small niggles and probably useful for other travellers: It would be good to have some information on local transport, walks, shops, takeaway delivery etc in the apartment. A couple of food/coffee basic items for late arrivals would be handy. The sink in the utility room is not connected to a waste pipe (although has a bucket) underneath. And this is perhaps something that is prevalent in Norway, there is large lip into the bathroom that you have to step over etc - they are high! We had a few stubbed toes but got used to them quickly (the steps not the stubbed toes!). If you have access requirements or mobility issues this may be a problem.

A great apartment with a fantastic and beautiful view of the Harbour. The furnishings are modern and we found everything that we needed there to make our stay comfortable. Communications with our host, Kristin, was good and clear and she was very helpful.
