Hotel Allende

I showed up in San Miguel de Allende without a reservation, and one of the more expensive hotels actually recommended this one as a slightly more economic choice. The cost for a room for a single person was 350 pesos/night, which was quite reasonable, given its central location. The room and bathroom were clean, and there was plenty of hot water available. It did not have a/c, but the hotel gave me a fan when I asked for one. There is not really any parking available, so I had to pay the pension down the street to park my vehicle. Wifi was available in the lobby only, and did not work in the room. All in all this was not a bad choice, and one that I would probably use again.

The room we got was so much different (and better!) than what they showed us upstairs, which was cheap and smelly. But our room was wonderful--especially for only $400 pesos/night ($31 US). It is just off to the left of the small lobby, which could bother people, but it had lovely stone floors, an alcove with a couch and a nice chandelier. Very spacious and clean, and king bed was very comfortable. Located right in centro. Lucked out and found parking right on the street. People running the desk were extremely friendly and spoke English very well. Only bad thing was the lack of a strong faucet in the shower. Other than that, loved it.

Do not go to the Hotel d'Allende in San Miguel Allende. They make their hotel sound cheap and great on the website but it is a hole. Made us pay 2 nights in advance to hold the room and when we saw the place and asked for our $ back they refused. When we complained, they treated us very rudely, in fact I have never been treated so rudely. Problems with the hotel include: sporadic water supply, can't be sure of getting a shower when you need it, shabby rooms, cable TV advertised but only 7 of the 40 channels aren't blocked, it's on the same block as a bar so the drunks make noise on the street til 5 am, and RUDE TREATMENT. This place is a rip-off, avoid it like the plague

This place advertises itself as a great deal on the web and looks decent in the pictures. Don't be sucked in! It is not nearly as nice as other cheaper accomodations. The rooms are shabby and run down. This place doesn't take credit cards and made us deposit 2 nights in advance in order to hold the room. When we asked for our money back it was refused. When we complained about false advertising we were treated very rudely and insulted by the owner and the desk clerk. There is no parking, and only 6 of the cable channels were not blocked. None of the unblocked 6 channels were worth watching. The place ran out of water one afternoon, we couldn't shower. There's a bar down the street and drunks make loud noise outside until 5 am. Impossible to get a decent night's sleep. All of this could have been tolerated, possibly, but the rude and greedy treatment we received at the hands of the staff was unbelievable.
