The Old School House

Lovely accomodations. Super breakfast with homemade granola and we were welcomed with homemade banana bread on arrival. Friendly and welcoming hosts and relaxed atmosphere.

The Old School House was absolutely the most charming and amazing guest house that we stayed in on our 3 week trip of the UK. The school house has been beautifully restored with updated features in every room. Our hosts Ian and Kate have a great eye for decorating detail and have thoughtful amenities in each room that made our stay so comfortable. Our bath was huge and immaculate. The beds comfortable. The room was sweet and cozy with a slice of homemade cake waiting for us. It was just what we needed after our long drive. We were also surprised that laundry facilities were available to us. That is a rare find. And breakfast.... Kate homemade granolas, jams and bread were unbelievably good. And we had our first taste of haggis and black pudding. Surprisingly tasty! This guest house is close to Hadrian's Wall and other hiking areas. Kate even drove a pair of hiking guests to their drop off point. For those who had a car like us, parking is conveniently out front. Can't say enough about this wonderful place.

A lovely place to stay

I had a really nice night's stay, the room was very nice and comfortable, the breakfast was excellent, and the owners were very nice and helpful.

Had a lovely stay with Ian and Kate for my Dad’s 60th after visiting the Tynedale beer festival! Our twin room was excellent, it was very comfortable and had everything we needed. I’d fully recommend their breakfast, all tastes are very well catered for and Ian and Kate are wonderful hosts. Haltwhistle is a nice little place too, located right by Hadrian’s wall with Northumberland National park on the doorstep! It’s got a few shops and pubs which look nice and an Indian restaurant we tried on the way back from the festival (recommended 😉). The train station is also close by so easy enough to travel further afield if needed. Will definitely look to book again and would thoroughly recommend.

Excellent location for hikers, cyclists ,motorcyclists and peaceful get aways. Owners are very friendly and hospitable nothing is too much trouble and they have lots of useful information to help you get the most from your stay. A variety of home cooked breakfast options available and home baked cakes are scrumptious 😋

Overnight stay en route to Scotland. Due to traffic we were due to arrive much later than scheduled but after a short phone call to Kate and Ian that was no problem and on arrival we received a very warm welcome plus a much needed welcome drink. Great advice about where to eat in the village. Room was very comfortable with great facilities including premium teas and coffees including fresh milk in a cute little fridge plus home made cookies. Superb choice of breakfast with cereal, fruit, home made granola and home made muesli, fresh pastries and home made bread. We opted for the full English with all locally sourced ingredients which was delicious. Will definitely try to stay here again on our next trip to Scotland.

Had a lovely stay here, a real hidden gem! Kate and Ian went above and beyond in terms of customer service, the food was delicious, room and bathroom clean and comfortable. Excellent value for money and we would definitely stay again. Thank you!
