PARADISE Bay Hotel

The location is great if you're travelling by car, with a free, reasonably sized parking area about 50 metres away (on dirt road). The beds were very comfortable and it was nice to have two pillows per person rather than the usual one. The cleaning staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. We didn't use the pool, but it looked clean and well maintained, with comfortable sun loungers. The private beach is lovely and the Italian beach bar was a highlight of our stay, serving excellent food and creating a great atmosphere.

Breakfast was the biggest disappointment of our stay. On our first morning, both of us ordered Eggs Benedict and it was honestly one of the worst breakfasts either of us has ever been served. It arrived on a cold, untoasted burger bun with underripe avocado, cold hollandaise sauce from a tub, a cold egg, and smoked salmon that looked unappetising due to grey and red discolouration around the edges. We ate very little of it and our dog ended up eating most it. The following morning we chose much simpler options that couldn't go wrong, mekitsi and French toast, which were actually very good. Unfortunately, as we were leaving the restaurant afterwards, we witnessed something that completely overshadowed the meal. We saw several birds actively eating from a plate of food that had been placed in the serving area where waiters collect dishes before taking them to guests. By the time we approached, most of the birds had flown away, but one remained and I was able to photograph it both beside the plate and eating directly from the food. We then watched a waiter collect the same plate rather than discard it. Seeing food that had been pecked at by birds apparently being served to guests was genuinely shocking. Birds land on bins, pavements, rooftops, and countless other unsanitary surfaces, so watching them eat directly from a customer's meal raised serious concerns about hygiene and food safety. We reported the matter to Booking.com, and Booking later informed us that they were unable to reach an agreement with the hotel, and despite the seriousness of the issue, the hotel was unwilling to offer any refund or compensation. That response was almost as disappointing as the incident itself. Also note that it isn't an ideal stay for people with mobility issues who want to go to the beach due to the stairs leading to the beach.
