Watercolours

We spent nine very enjoyable days at Watercolours in Koh Chang in February 2026. This was our first visit to Thailand, and after the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Watercolours was a peaceful and welcome change of pace. It took us a little while to write this review, as it wasn’t easy to put into words how much we enjoyed our stay. The property has the feel of a quiet retreat, with a small, boutique charm that sets it apart from larger resorts. From the moment we arrived, Thanya’s warmth and personal touch made everything feel easy and welcoming, and her team were consistently helpful, friendly, and natural throughout our stay. Our room was spotless, thoughtfully designed, and very comfortable, ideal for a longer stay. The quiet surroundings made it easy to fully relax and sleep well each night. The food was simple and very good, and we really appreciated Thanya’s local recommendations. The riverside deck was a highlight, a calm place to sit and watch life on the water, and the location made it easy to reach the beach with a short canoe ride. We also enjoyed having the canoe to explore the river and surroundings.

The only minor downside was the access road, which is a bit basic and uneven in places. It wasn’t a major issue for us, but something to be aware of when walking into town. A bonus, though, was seeing a troop monkeys along the road.

La tranquillità e la posizione bellissima tra fiume e mare…la bellezza e pulizia delle camere e anche del resto della struttura, la possibilità di poter usare gratis le canoe , la gentilezza e la estrema disponibilità dei proprietari e anche del personale, la piccola piscina e la possibilità di avere una ottima colazione o piccoli snack in giornata

Good, quiet location on the water, free kayaks.

Very strong artificial floral fragrance in the room that we could not tolerate, along with a noticeable grey water smell from the toilet area. We also found an unknown substance under the bed that appeared organic and decomposing (brown and yellow with softer areas). Staff offered conflicting explanations, modeling clay and AC glue, neither of which matched the appearance. We eventually decided we couldn’t tolerate the smell and had to find alternate lodging. The owner apologized profusely and agreed in person to refund the remaining two nights if we chose to leave, and we of course offered to pay for our first night. We relied on his promise and checked out. After leaving, however, the property refused the refund and kept the payment anyway. Their written response directly contradicted what we were told in person and included a false allegation that I had asked to use drugs in the room. Based on our experience, I would strongly recommend avoiding if you are sensitive to smells, and getting any agreements in writing before making decisions based on their word. There are endless wonderful places to stay on Koh Chang. In our experience, this is not one of them.

Tout etait bien

Alles ist neu hier. Großes Zimmer mit getrennter Dusche und WC. Kühlschrank, sehr leise Klimaanlage. Gefließte Fußböden. Wunderbare Terrasse direkt am Fluß. Thanya und Jason sowie ihr Personal kümmern sich fürsorglich um Ihre Gäste. Uns fehlte es an nichts. Sehr gutes und leckeres Essen. Schöne Tour den Fluss hoch durch die Mangroven und zum sehr schönen Sandstrand auf der anderen Flußseite sind es nur ein paar Minuten mit dem Kanu. Aber Achtung Sandfliegen ohne Ende. Es ist vor allem Nachts absolut ruhig hier. Wir würden sofort wieder hier übernachten. Wir waren 6 Nächte hier.

Das Frühstück sollte bei diesem Preis incl. sein. Ansonsten PERFEKT

המארחים היו מדהימים! משפחה אדיבה ונחמדה, מאוד עוזרים, נחמדים ומסבירי פנים. אפשר להשכיר קיאקים וכו ולשוט בנחל ולחוף שזאת תוספת ממש נחמדה. עזרו לנו לסגור כמה אטרקציות מעולות דרכם (הסדנת בישול הייתה אחת החוויות הטובות שלנו בתאילנד). החדר עצמו היה מדהים, מעוצב יפה, גדול, מרווח ונעים, נקי מאוד ומיטה נוחה ורכה! אוכל טעים מאוד במקום. שכחנו משהו בקו צ׳אנג אחרי שעזבנו והם עזרו לנו מאוד למרות שכבר לא היינו שם- מדהימים! תמורה מדהימה למחיר, תודה רבה למארחים על החוויה המדהימה הזאת בקו צ׳אנג.

היה לפעמים קצת ריח של ביוב בשירותים.

A small boutique hotel run by a lovely (and very helpful) Thai-Aussie couple who recently renovated the hotel and put a lot of thought into it. The atmosphere is very relaxing, the rooms are very big and very comfortable. It was great to be able to jump into one of the kayaks or canoes and row upstream along the river or a short downstream row to the beach.

The only minor downside is that it is about a 10-15 min walk to the main street which is fine if you OK with walking or have a scooter.
