Maplecroft Bed & Breakfast

We enjoyed a restful sleep in a comfortable bed. Even though we had to leave super early to catch our flight in Boston and couldn't enjoy the hot breakfast, the owner left us a muffin and access to coffee to begin our day.

I try not to leave negative reviews but I feel that prospective visitors should know what to expect. Although the main parlor area and dining area of the house were fine, the “Robert Burnes suite” was extremely outdated and depressing. The website was very misleading. The owner claimed some pieces of furniture were antiques but the old couch was from the 60s or 70s, the other furniture looked the same and as if it had been purchased at garage sales or picked up on the side of the road. The bathroom was outdated from the 70s or 80s as well. There was very old wall to wall carpeting. There was a full kitchen but again it was very run down. We have traveled extensively and stayed at many charming bed and breakfasts over the years—this one was very disappointing. Perhaps the bedrooms in the main house were charming Victorian style, but the suite we stayed in absolutely was not. On a good note, the breakfast was tasty.

Maplecroft Bed & Breakfast far exceeded our expectations on all levels! Karen greeted us as we arrived and made us feel at home right away. She also told us about some great local things to see (Meltdown restaurant right across the street, Morse Farm, Rock of Ages Quarry tour, and Hope Cemetery). We were invited to use the common living rooms at our leisure and help ourselves to the coffee at any time. The breakfasts were delicious, including homemade bread used for the French toast and huevos rancheros on our second morning (we stayed 3 days). Every design detail in this classic house is covered. The rooms are beautifully decorated, the room we stayed in was comfortable, including robes, a writing desk, side chair, and plenty of closet space. Our bathroom had a clawfoot tub, and even the radiator was decorative! We would definitely stay here again.

Wi-fi is very weak. Sometimes cable TV stopped. Internet stopped very often.
