"Comfortable, basic accommodation near Hanmer township"

6.0

This property is comfortable and has all the basics you need. The decor is very "bach-like" but it has everything that is needed. It is up on Conical Hill so is a downhill walk to town, not the best if lugging shopping or small kids back up but is relatively close to the township (just shy of a km walk down to the pools). Beds were reasonably comfy and stairs to upstairs were quiet and there is a baby gate at the bottom if you are wanting to keep that area closed off. There is building happening next door and the fencing encroaches on the driveway making it quite narrow but you can fit one car down the drive outside the property.

We had what I considered a pretty poorly handled issue with the payment and cost of this property. Being booked on booking.com I was given a total amount which included all taxes etc. Payments are not handled by Booking.com but by Hanmer holiday homes. I was charged a 50% deposit which when I checked my credit card statement was more than 50% of the booking.com price. I was then sent an email fro Hanmer holiday homes stating the same price per night but also with a GST charge of $26. I usually would never query this however, we know booking.com charges a VAT which is essentially GST. So I queried the amount with HHH directly and was told it was the Credit card fee (2.5%) that had pushed the deposit amount up from what I'd expected. When I went back to explain no, that wasn't the issue with the additional GST charge, I was then told that it was a $20 surcharge added because we were only booking for one night (also incorrect as the email specifically said GST - $26.). So I went back a 3rd time saying "no, you are trying to double charge GST" and was told that the $20 "one night surcharge" fee had been waived. Whether this was a mistake or something more underhanded, this should have not even been a discussion as I sent pictures of the booking.com price straight away on the first contact querying the price and if it was a mistake to add the GST in, this should have been stated and it could've been cleared up easily. I was left with a sour taste when things such as "one night surcharges" which are not mentioned ANYWHERE on the booking.com advert started to get mentioned in communications about the additional GST charge. This is no reflection on the property itself, but Hanmer Holiday homes needs to manage their automated emails regarding charges better if they are managing the payments directly as we have never had issues with additional charges when using booking.
