"Lovely quirky cottage in the heart of Brixham. Would recommend to anyone wishing to see the fishing harbour."

9.0

Well appointed for Brixham harbour. Perfect size for 2 people. The property had everything you would need for a holiday.

There was nothing we didn’t like. I would say if 4 people were sharing the property the second bedroom was a bit awkward as it was in a loft conversion. Would probably be ok for children.

"Lovely relaxing old fisherman’s cottage. Perfect for a week away."

9.0

Comfortable and relaxing, a great location close to the harbour. Clean and in good condition, had everything you needed.

No parking close by, however the parking permit that came with the rental meant we could park a short distance away - about a 10 min walk.

I was issued a parking ticket, despite having a permit. We therefore had to find somewhere to park for the remainder of our stay.

I didn't like the way I booked through booking.com paid in full, and then had to fill in a long form for the agent including downloading copies of my passport. The booking would have been cancelled if I hadn't wanted or been able to. Let me fill in the form first and decide if I want to give my details to a a 3rd party and continue with the booking before taking the money.

"A quirky way to immerse yourself in the "culture of Brixham" experience."

7.0

The location of Limpet Cottage, being close to the center of Brixham, is excellent. The rooms were well appointed and well equipped although the layout is a little quirky. The front door is accessed via a set of quite steep steps. It's narrow and opens to a small porch area and then onto a passage to the good sized utility room at the rear. From here you can climb 2 sets of steps to get to an outside seating area. The ground floor has a compact double bedroom and the generous sized bathroom. Take the steep stairway to the first floor to access the galley kitchen and comfortable lounge/dining area - all with wooden floorboards. The kitchen has access to a small balcony area (no seating) from which you can see the surrounding propeties and gardens at the rear of Limpet Cottage. We also h If you need the other two (single) beds, they are located up a further steep staircase on the 2nd floor. This room has it's own toilet (a necessity when the main bathroom is 2 floors down!). It also has the best view over the harbour area. The property was equipped with most of what we needed however, as a self catering unit, you need to be prepared to bring some essentials with you (or pick them up en-route). Saltwater escapes operate using remote messages and an app that provides most communication. We suggest you read it thoroughly as there are quite a few rules, pieces of information and advisories that are important. It is written in quite an officious style. Booking this property comes with free use of local carparking and also in some other car parks around the Torbay area (in certain car parks that you need to check out on a website). I you plan to go to Torquay, we recommend the ferry service from Brixham - It's far easier than driving and the views are worth it!!

Whilst it was not a major challenge for us, some people may find the parking and access an issue. The nearest car park is around 10 minutes walk away - mostly flat paths but you cannot avoid taking steps or inclines up to Limpet Cottage. There is NO CHANCE of parking anywhere nearer the property and the road network leading to Limpet Cottage is very very narrow. The turning/unloading space outside the cottage, which is pretty much the only place you'll get your car close, is small and we witnessed several larger vehicles taking some time and significant effort to manouver their way in, turn, and then get out (you have to drive out the same way as you drive in as it's a no-through road. The utility area is a good size and under cover. A washing machine and collapsible airer are provided. There was no washing line available outside. We had heavy rain on one day of our stay and, sadly, the roof leaked. There is a BT router for internet access however we found it patchy and, on occasion insufficient to get online. We were provided with a black rubbish bag and tried to follow the rules for rubbish disposal however the canvass bag (used by all houses in an attempt to stop the seagulls getting to it) that the rubbish has to be placed in was ripped so inevitably did not function properly. Rubbish is supposed to be placed in the small cupboard at street level and put out by occupants on collection days however we found a large volume of smelly rubbish just loosely (not bagged) placed in an overflowing container. Clearly a large number of past occupants have not followed the instructions!! We would have welcomed the availability of an "essentials" pack containing things like washing up liquid (there is a small dishwasher installed), toilet roll, kitchen roll, cleaning spray. Maybe even some food basics like milk, bread?? but there is a small Co-op and Tesco Express a few minutes walk away on Fore Street.
