Such a lovely place for a relaxing holiday

The room was very nice, calm and comfy. We took a street-view room and it had a view on palm trees (4th floor), which we found very nice. The breakfast was great, could have been even better without self-service coffee machine (many issues with it). The pool area is nice, although there aren’t enough seats provided. Sadly it was rainy during our whole stay despite it was dry season (4 nights), so we asked the reception for an hdmi cable to connect the tv to our smartphone and watch movies on Netflix in the evening and they kindly lent us one.

We found the massages too expensive, we went to many 5 star hotels in Vietnam where they were way cheaper, so we didn’t book any. We tried to stay in the pool area in a covered bed under the rain, to avoid staying in the room all the time with the bad weather, but water would drop through the fabric cover and wet everything. So when it rains, besides the prison museum, there’s quite nothing to do on this island.😅

Overall a good experience, though it falls short of being really great. Shuttle service to/from the airport was great. Checkin was quick and easy. The rooms are clean, well-equipped, and everything is in good order (airco, fridge,.. All works well and quietly). Good beds, relatively well isolated from the noise. The breakfast is quite a large buffet, in Asian style so mostly hot food, though continental/American options are also available. The pool is large, with both areas for lazing around and for actual swimming. The location is better than that of most hotels on the island, striking a good balance between being in walking distance of touristic points of interest, shops, and restaurants, while also not being in a too busy area and still having the beach nearby. So, all in all, it ticks all the boxes a hotel needs to tick, and I can certainly recommend it if someone wants to stay here. So, overall, it ticks all the boxes to be good. It's really on some minor details that it falls just shy of being absolutely great. The staff, even at reception, but noticeably in the restaurants and the excursion desk, speak relatively limited English. Getting a point across can be frustrating. It's okay, but not great. The rooms are cleaned and made up daily, but no extra effort goes into this - no matter if you leave your towels hanging or on the ground, they get replaced, don't expect any "fun" shapes, they're just put on a stack. Again, the room is clean which is the most important, but that's also where it ends. The Spice Garden restaurant and the rooftop bar were good and great, respectively, but the Secret Restaurant, supposedly the best, was quite a letdown. At every restaurant we encountered things running out (as in "all wines in discount area sold out", not just one article). To be fair, we visited right after lunar new year, which may have interfered worth restocking - I couldn't say... But then they might want to clearly indicate this. So, overall, good hotel, just shy of greatness.
