"A very frustrating check-in turned into a wonderful stay!"

8.0

The check-in was absolutelly not professional. They have sent us an e-mail a day earlier saying that we had to go and pick up the keys on the other side of town form an office there. No one was waiting for us in front of the property or whatsoever. To pick up the keys we had to pay for parking. Later we had to go to the other side of town and wait for a free parking space on the public P7 parking. The hotel has not reserved parking or so. With the suitcases we had to walk 300meters uphill or take the steps. We have seen other people being picked up with a local car, the one having the ZTL pass and being transported to the door of their property. This palazzo did not offer that kind of service. We were given probably the worst room there is in the palace at first. “Contess Giannina” . Probably in the past it used to be a room for the buttler or the personal maid of the contess but hardly anything more comes to my imagination. The window was two meters high overlooking a conrete balkony or so with some trash thrown in it. The worst was the bed. The mattresses were totally worn out and swinging like a Venetian gondolla. We have called straight ahead and asked for another room. The receptionist had to come of course from the other side of town so we had to wait. When she came she was very helpful and showed us the opposite room “Conte Gurlino” accross the hallway that had a perfect mattress. It was also a great room. Nothing to compare with the first one. We still wonder why are they giving you a terrible room at first when they have such a juwel available. To sum up a terrible first impression of the property and staff which later changed into a very pleasant stay. The view from the room was fantastic. The walls were all painted exactly as a palaces look like. Bathroom and shower heads were such a lovely mixture between industrial and vintage style. Brass polished shower heads. Bidet was very handy. The bedroom was a king bedroom and we have slept like babies over there. The whole palace was just beautifully decorated and seemed quite authentic too. Breakfast was not inside the Palazzo but at the main square of Montepulciano which made up for a good reason to get out of bed and start moving. To sum it all up we had fantastic three days over there. It all started really disappointing but ended up just fine.
