"A cosy retreat in the Peak District"

9.0

We had 3 meals during our stay and the food is exceptional and worth a visit just for that. We were greeted with homemade cookies when we arrived. There was a great assortment of options for vegetarians as well as locally sourced meats. Beds are really comfortable and the rooms spotlessly clean. The Inn itself is full of historic charm and when we visited the fire was much appreciated. In sunnier weather there's a lovely beer garden with raised planters which supply the kitchen with an assortment of home grown vegetables.

A bottle of water in the room would have been good.

"Great Pub/great food with Good Accommodation."

8.0

The Black Lion was very well situated in the village. The village was charming and had a ford running along one of the lanes. The accommodation was in an old pub but very comfortable and our room was great although it didn't have a walk-in shower and the bath was too steep sided to allow my wife to shower. Having said that it was no problem for the 2 nights we were residents. The bar area had a great selection of draught beers, including Bass. The restaurant was not open in the evenings so we had to have our meal in one of the bar areas. The food was excellent and included venison and sirloin steak plus others. We were spoilt for choice with the menu. Breakfast was served in the restaurant with a great choice on the menu.

We are not keen on dogs in eating areas but we were fully aware that the owners stated the pub was dog friendly. On our first evening we had no heating in our bedroom so when we returned after our meal the room felt very cool. Heating was on for our second evening.
