Hôtel La Zoologie

This property was misrepresented in the Expedia description. It was a 35 to 40 minute walk to get anywhere. We like to walk but the street we walked on left a little to be desired. Also with weather being what it was we wanted to take a cab to dinner but were quoted 50 euros just to get there. The restaurant is nice but the menu is very limited and there are not many places that I would recommend near there. Rooms were laid out funny with a bathtub and the shower, sink, etc, right in the middle of the room. Way too expensive for the quality of the hotel and particularly the location.

The restaurant and bar were excellent. The decoration of the hotel is beautiful!

Such a unique hotel in the old Faculty of Sciences building for Zoology and Geology. We had a comfort room which had a gorgeous free-standing bath in the room itself and a powerful shower and separate basin area (this is glass screened and so you should be comfortable with your room buddy!) There's lovely little nods to its history with animals on the curtains and different flora / fauna on the tiling. Separate bathroom. The spa on the basement level has a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna which you can make use of between 8am and 11am and 8pm and 10pm without booking. Comfy robes and slippers were provided in the room. WiFI is good and work space in the room was handy for our day working. It's well-situated a short walk from the St Jean station and ~10 mins the other direction into the main town (really enjoyed nearby Marche des Capuchins for breakfast/lunch options). We didn't have the breakfast in the hotel itself as preferred to explore. Really friendly staff and we paid €40 for a 4pm check-out on our last day.

The receptionists - a lady and a gentleman - couldn’t be more helpful when my partner was unwell. They were so caring with a professional manner. We can’t thank them enough, and recommend the hotel to anyone who would like to spend a quality time in Bordeaux.

Cool, quirky hotel. The building and decor was great. Comfortable, good sized room. Breakfast was good. Didn’t eat there. We wanted to eat at the smaller bar/restaurant but it was closed. It is slightly out if the centre, about a 20 minute walk. Good team and bus connections and close to the station.

Excellent location just not far from train station. Close to shops, restaurants and children's play areas. Had lunch in hotel restaurant and was excellent choice served by friendly gentlemen.

We stayed here for a three night city break. The hotel itself is fabulous, we stayed in the zoological section of the hotel and had a delightful balcony overlooking the hotel’s central garden which we absolutely loved. The room itself was large with everything we needed apart from a fridge to store some milk for coffee but it was speedily delivered when rang for. The rooms are stocked with L’Occitane products and Evian water. We ate in the hotel restaurant the first night and had a really lovely dinner. Special word of mention must go to the two ladies serving us, one of which was the sommelier - she provided us with exceptional service and provided us with a fabulous wine pairing for our dinner. That being said all the staff in this hotel were wonderful especially the two guys running the bar - great cocktails and gin and tonics. We had lunch at the hotel’s Italian restaurant on our first day, the menu is small but the service and quality of food is exceptional. One thing to note if booking this hotel and I can only speak for our room in the zoológica section - the shower is open to the room by a clear screen, not a problem for us as a married couple but would be awkward for friends sharing or perhaps a newly dating couple!! Some things should be kept a mystery! The only downside we found with this hotel is the location, it is a 20 minute walk up to the old town and in quite an industrial area, the tram is about a 6 minute walk, okay during the day but we were a little nervous walking back at night. There seems to be some sort of school/child care facility right beside the hotel - the noise from this during the day from early morning until evening is quite extensive - if screaming children is not your thing perhaps ask for a room at the front of the hotel. The roof terrace is a great amenity on a warm day however it could do with some comfortable chairs for relaxing in, the ones there at the moment are not great! My husband had two massages at the spa and throughly enjoyed them, the only thing that’s missing is a pool. We had a lovely stay and would like to thank all the staff for being so lovely, we really felt at home - merci Beaucoup!

We had issues with the WiFi which really negatively impacted our stay, as I was working and had to go to a cooking space nearby to have reliable internet. Otherwise great food and design of the space. If not for the WiFi, I’d rate 5 stars.

Zoologie was a wonderful hotel with helpful staff and stunning rooms. Food was great, especially breakfast

Had an amazing stay here. Gorgeous hotel and large comfortable rooms. The service was amazing and the spa was lovely. Highly recommend.
