West End Hotel

Just a heads up no microwave or refrigerator in the room that we stayed in. There was a stand up fan which was nice. Bathroom door would not shut properly either, but otherwise very clean and nice. Love the old time charm.

Ok, so some of the reviews comment on the paper thin walls. Yup, they really are. The disgusting creature that was in room 22 next to me should really see a doctor given the amount of phlegm hocking, swallowing and coughing up that happened every night, all night. The burp was a treat to hear too. The hotel is clean, just a little tired. Yes, there's mould in the shower area - cillit bang mould remover would do the trick. The hot water needs turning down a notch. It's ridiculously hot. The water from a kettle would be cooler. It takes less than 10 minutes to get down to the beach and shops are a further 10 minutes from there. There's was 1 staff member in particular who seemed to be doing all the work (wish I had asked her name). She covered reception, bar, took food orders, brought the food out too. I wouldn't be surprised if she cooked it too!! Don't know how much she's earning, but it's not enough - give her a raise!! Food was good - plenty of it and piping hot. Location was great for seeing local attractions. All in all a great place to stay.

Good price. Evening meal was very good. Twin room clean but in need to updating, painting curtains and new sink in bathroom which was cracked.

No hot water to shave or shower. We had 4 separate rooms and none had hot water.

I feel like I need to start off by saying it was a very clean place, a little shabby but clean. The place was interesting, when I checked in it was really noisy around town, people cheering loudly but I hadn’t really seen anyone so I asked what was going on and the woman at the front desk told me it was a “sporting event.” Turned out it was the area Highland Games, I wish she had told me what it was, I would have loved to go see it but it was too late by the time I realized. Then there was the room, I was surprised to find it had a kitchen but it didn’t have any plates or silverware, so it was basically useless - who travels with dinnerware? Then there was the bed…. It was terrible!!! When you sat on it, it would sink all the way down to the boards with the springs sticking into you. I would not recommend this place unless you’re desperate.
