The James Madison Inn

Inn is in a very nice location near the town center.

We booked our 2-night stay one week prior to arrival and $259 (one night) was charged to our credit card 3 days prior to arrival. We then received a call from the Inn on the day of arrival informing us they did not have a room for us for our second night. We had been driving for an hour already and we were HALF WAY TO THE INN. Despite admitting that they willingly accept reservations from 3rd party sites, they took no responsibility and blamed Booking.com and said they only received our reservation the morning of arrival. When I asked why they weren't bumping someone who was due to arrive tomorrow instead of someone en route to the property, the GM literally said to me "we don't bump our guests." He then fell silent when I said "but you are bumping us so you do not consider 3rd party bookers legitimate reservations??" The biggest issue is that there was zero empathy shown to us, as we sat on the side of the road wondering if we should keep driving or turn around and go home. They gave us the phone number of a small Bed & Breakfast that he said was "across the square." Turns out it is 3 blocks down and half the price, no where near an acceptable replacement for the reservation we had made. When following up with Booking.com they said they send their reservations to the Inn on the day the reservation is made, not day of arrival. And they also told me that the Inn charged me, not them. And now, almost a week after the fact, we still have not received the credit due to us on our credit card. Lesson learned, we will NEVER book using a 3rd party site ever again, and we will NEVER stay at the James Madison Inn. They could have easily solved the issue by offering us an upgrade or a slight discount on another weekend, but they did nothing and were not sincerely apologetic.

Best Hotel I have ever stayed in. I’ll be back soon.
