Hotel os Moinhos

Jolies maisonnettes en pierres au milieu d'un jardin fleuri avec un très bon restaurant, une vue magnifique. Les appartements sont très spacieux. Jolie piscine pour se détendre. Hôtel calme et bien situé.

Salle de bain un peu démodée (eau qui coule partout à chaque douche) mais le ménage est fait chaque jour donc on la retrouve nickel à chaque nouvelle utilisation.

Bien situé, avec une magnifique vue sur le mont Pico. La piscine est agréable, sans chlore. Le personnel est très sympathique et le petit déjeuner délicieux. Le coq chante souvent.

Tout est un peu décrépit, la porte de la salle de bain ne ferme pas et s’ouvre toute seule (elle claque pendant la nuit), les fenêtres sont tenues ouvertes avec un morceau de bois. Le flexible de la douche est court est pour se doucher la tête, on doit se baisser. Le matelas à ressort a fait son temps. Le wifi est HS. Il n’y a pas de parasols au bord de la piscine et les extérieurs ne sont pas bien entretenus (une barrière est cassée au bord de la piscine). Le coq chante souvent.

This hotel is tucked away up on the mountain above the town of Velas but it's really only a quick 5-minute drive from downtown, making this a quaint hidden gem. The hotel has an active restaurant so they include breakfast for their guests. Fresh crepes, eggs, cheese and fruit along with bread and homemade jellies. Have you ever had Pumpkin Jelly? The orange juice is fresh squeezed (so sometimes sweet and sometimes not) and fresh coffee made to order. It's the same breakfast every morning but it's consistently good. There is ceral and yogurt as well if you want something lighter. The hotel produces lots of it's own fruits and other produce for cooking and canning which is such a nice farm to table feel. They serve lunch and dinner with reservations because they are open to the public as well for those times. We had three separate cabins so we could spread out and have privacy, but we were still close so we could visit with each other. Each cabin had a separate bedroom and living room space making it feel really spacious. There was also small refrigerator in our room for a small snacks and beverages and a pot to boil water for instant coffee or tea and a coffee maker in one of our units too. The staff were very helpful and accomodating. The view and peaceful surroundings were really amazing as well. Great views of Pico when the clouds weren't covering it up. The pool was VERY cold but we loved it with it's lava rock waterfall! There is also a family of kitty's who were loving and affectionante as well. We took advantage of the laundry service they also provided which allowed us to keep our clothes fresh for our two week trip.

The beds were so firm/flat that it was very uncomfortable for a few people in our group. A quilted mattress cover is an inexpensive way to fix this issue, which would have made all difference in comfort on the beds I think. The bathrooms are big but the tub/shower has the plumping underneath, making it a bit scary for anyone not steady on their feet to get in and out due to the difference in height. A grab bar or step would help lessen the risk of a fall. There also needs to be better water containment (ie., secure half shower door to keep the water from pooling out onto the tile floors or shower curtains with weights on the bottom to keep the water from spilling out. Additionally rubber matted bathmats to step onto, would prevent slipping accidents, along with the afore mentioned step. Oh yea - there is a Rooster who doesn't know his day from night - so he's cockadoodling at all hours. LOL! But that only bothered my husband.

We loved the comfort, the silence, the view, the staff (very helpful, run by a family), and the restaurant had the best food of the island.

Beds are like bricks. No screens on the windows so mosquitoes and lizards get in the rooms.

Authentic vintage style Azorean cottages in an idyllic setting with view of Pico and channel. After a day of hiking and exploring São Jorge we love to return to the oasis of Hotel Os Moinhos. This is our 3rd stay and we plan to return in the spring. The suite is clean and spacious . The hosts are gracious and welcoming. Best part is the relaxed feeling even though it’s high season. Book in advance.
